Well im learning barre chords, its coming along, but i m confused about recognizing them on chord sheets. How do you tell the difference between F open position and F barre chord on a crd tab? etc. Maybe im missing something.
Thanks for the help!

the tab has the actual chord used tucked away at the bottom somewhere.

The F (major) Chord is played as a barre at the first fret- in the "open" position- thus:

e-1
b-1
g-1
d-2
a-3
E-3

E being the low e string. Think of it as an e (major) chord "slid up one" :)

This is because this positions give the lowest notes for an F on a fretboard.

The other (easy) position for an F maj is the same chord at fret 13 - octave higher.

THIS is an F barre chord in the E chord form (James, you're off by a string there).

E...1
B...1
G...2
D...3
A...3
E...1

or this, in the A chord form:

E...8
B...10
G...10
D...10
A...8
E...X

Lots of tabs don't indicate what chord shapes are to be used. Let your ear be your guide.
