Artificial Harmonics....Need help to do it

I'm trying to be able to play harmonics...
and i was told to put a finger right on the bar going across the neck and pluck a string to get it. But I just get a regular note by doing this. I seem to play harmonics by Accident and that's about it for now. I can't figure out how to play them at WILL.

in order for harmonics to work, you have to have your finger BARELY touching the metal fret ( not even touching the metal fret, actually, just over it) its gotta be very very very lightly touched on the strings. keep working at it.

if you are getting the exact same note out if it, you are just playing the note then...you'll figure it out, keep working on it

If it sounds the same, it's because you are right over hte 12th fret, but htere are other harmonics at the 7th and 5th fret...

I prefer to do a pinch harmonic when playing electric guitar for several reasons:
1. Once you learn it, it is as easy to perform as other harmonics
2. It allows you to manipulate the notes after you have played it, such as bending, adding vibrato, etc.

I have seen earlier posts on pinch harmonics so I am not going to enter into how to perform them unless someone requests it...

I AM REQUESTING!!!!!!!!
I've seen/heard people play harmonics and use Vibrato with them..so you can't just lightly touch the string to do that.

I'd Like to know..
I'm trying to learn all I can...as fast as i can

When you're just touching the string, that are natural harmonics because you're deviding the string into several shorter strings of the same length, so the string sounds higher. (min 1 octave, when done on fret 12, there you devide the string in 2 string by half)

Artificial harmonics are played just like normal notes. But the picking motion must be done so that the thumb, where you hold the plectrum, is touching the string shortly after the plectrum did.
It needs some practice to master it. Then you can play it with vibrato, bendings, etc..

Not neccesserally the thumb. I use the ringfinger to do harmonics aswell. I feel more comfortable playing certain notes with the ring instead of the thumb - most notes actually.

Pinch harmonics are prformed by playing a note then diggigng into the string with the side of your thumb at the same time...this might sound difficult but its not really a great tip is to find out on your guitar where harmonics sound best e.g on my guitar its easy to play pnch harmonics on the 5th fret 6th sting(A) directly in the middle of the neck humbucker hope this helps if you need further clarification please let me know.

what i did when i kinda knew how, for hours i would sit in my bedroom and just play scales up and down in artificial harmonics. that's how i got to do them without making an error every other time with the right hand and having the harmonic not come out too well, if at all. might wanna try this if you're havin trouble.

don't forget "harp" harmonics! you can fret a note, say 3rd fret high E string, normally, then, with this note acting like an open string (sort of), use your right hand's index finger to lightly touch the string over the 15th fret (one octave) then pick....this is more of a classical guitar technique and is quite similar to a pinch harmonic, except getting a pinch harmonic to SOUND on a nylon string guitar is hard to do

another method is to fret normally and TAP with the right hand an octave above the fretted note...this is fun for doing chords...fret an open E then tap 12th,14th,14th,13th,12th,12th frets from low to high...

oh, and you can do vibrato on a natural harmonic :P just manipulate the string behind the nut...and wiggling the guitar around can work for ya too
