Recording Levels

I use the line out on the amp and sometimes mic up an amp and send these to a small mixer then send it to the computer and record one stereo track at a time.

I'm having trouble with the recording levels being overdriven. Could someone tell me about what the levels on the computer and mixer should be? Should one be set higher or one be set first? The computer has a mic boost optional parameter, also.

I use Acid Music Studio 7.0. I've used acid for 15 years and like it. (plug)

One of the problems was to play the pre-recorded and live music over the pa while using a mic on an amp. But, I got passed that.

Actually you should check the audiolevels of the input channel. It should not be more then 0db. Better around -1db till -0.5db. So before recording you have to check the levels when you play the loudest and then ajust it. Thats the easiest way - but of course the quality of your audio - interface has an influence on the sound quality. :cool:

Do you mean then input from the mixer to the computer or the software track level?

The software track level use to be -6.0db by default; but, now it is 0.0db. So, I turn it back to -6.0db for every recording. I'm not sure how to get it back to default. But, there might be a limiter. It won't go over 0.0db. Clipping is my guess.

I've experimented a lot lately to get it sounding fairly good.
