Are my fingers to fat to play chords??????

I am trying to learn to play but my fingers seem to be to big for playing the guitar. Is it possible that some people are not equipted to play the guitar? I'm hoping that you will say no.

Your fingers always seem fat when you start out on the guitar.

I'm 6'3 and 300 pounds, and my hands look like bear's paws. When my students go "I can't play the A chord, my hands are too big" I just show them mine, it usually works...

Also, there's the other way "my fingers are too short" noooo... Lots of virtuosos have shorter than average fingers, and they play great, now go back to work, no excuse.... ;)

Thanks for that. I needed to hear that. I was really getting worried. I know if I were getting lessons my teacher would have told me that, but I can't afford them now. That's why I come here to get help from guys like you. Thanks alot I needed that encouragement. By the way, are there any exercises for guys with fat fingers like mine that I could use. And who often should I practice?

I agree wholeheartedly with lalimacefolle, i have small hands and thought i'd never hold a full bar(re) chord -I did,I do,I will :). The hands take time to adapt and stretch into shape on the guitar, persevere.

BTW although you dont need an amp, learning on an acoustic can be moy painful for beginners as the strings are heavier and the neck usually thicker than electrics.

Just try to switch from one chord to another,
As to how often, try at least to play 15 minutes every day, then increase as your hands get more comfortable.

segovia, perhaps one of the greatest classical guitarists ever had short, stubby fingers.
You can do it, just find a guitar that feels good and practice
