when I bought my BOSS DS-1 distortion pedal. I was mostly a rock player, but since then I have gone through blues courses 1 and 2, learned almost all the blues songs on this site and developed a love for blues. how can I get a bluesy sound out of this pedal, I can get close, but i'm still not there yet.
any help is appreciated
thank You

A lot of blues is done off the neck pickup and I hate to say it but tone is probably 90% in the fingers and 10% from the gear you use. (I used to hate when people told me that but I have come to understand this to be 100% true)

I second Dave. even if playing thru the same axe and amps, 2 different players will never produce the same tone.
the DS-1 is a really versatile pedal, for blues, keep the gain of the pedal to less than 50% and cut the hi-end to emphasis the mids - select the position of the pickup on your axe that suit the song.
that being said, some players still sounds very bluesy regardless of playing at full gain or crystal clean. it all depends on what type of blues song you are playing.
if it sounds (and feel) good to you, stick to it.
hope this helps.
have fun finding your tone and good luck :)
Cheers!
