Hey Folks < really having a blast learning the chords and love the challenges that the guitar is throwing at me . Anyways by following Chris's advice I was wondering when it come to barring the F chord if I need a lot of calous in my fingers .

The C major chord and G major chord I'm having good success with although practice makes perfect bu anyways when it comes to the F chord I can fret B,G,D chords decently although I still have issues with arching but it has improved But yeah barring E and B chords still facing a lot of trouble .

So was wondering if the problem with barring chords has to do with my fingers not being hard enough .

I really want to nail the bar chords and have lots of patience , But any suggestions would definetely help

Building up callouses certainly helps, but also finger strength and dexterity too. Especially your index finger. Just keep practicing and you'll get it.

Thank you , Perhaps some finger warm up exercises before practice chords would help I've looked at Lisa's Spider legs which has helped but was also wondering if there are any other lessons that can help as well

I would say that practice is the best exercise.

I was having similar issues so I just picked this up today so I can work on my finger strength.

Hi,

Dexterity is the key thing here. Building strength is also important but you will need to do it in a wise way. When you press a barre chord do it firmly but release quickly - do a series of 20 times, then stop and release for 20 secs. Do 5 series of those. After a few days you will start noticing that your fingers become more flexible and gain dexterity. Start the accuracy process - play a chord and then pick strings independently seeking the wrong notes - if any - adjust or at least try. If in the middle of the proces it hurts - release immediately.

I also have been having problems. I use my index finger and press all the strings and always seem to be muting the 1 & 2 or the 2 & 3 strings. I need to practice this and get it right.....

Cool, you will get it !!! I exactly remember how hard it all was. I gave you one way, but there are many. Dig youtube for other techniques, folks :)
