When I say "picking" I actually mean choosing. I'm applying to the UTA School of Music next spring so I have a long time to prepare for the audition. I'm pretty confident in my playing but I'm having trouble deciding on what song(s) to play. The piece I play has to be "jazz chord melody or classical" (acording to dean of admissions). Of course I'm gonna ask my guitar teacher what he thinks, but I'd like to see if you guys have any ideas for me. Thanks a lot!

try with Turkish march (Mozart)
Good performace of that song could impress (me :))
or take a look at the movie "Crossroads" (with Steve Vai) and you'll know what I mean

Hi!

I would strongly recommend something classical. Here a few very good ones that usually impress Teachers:

J. S. Bach:

- Chaconne or "Ciaccona"
from Partita 2 A Viloino SOlo Sanza Basso (BWV 1004)
- Suite E-Moll (BWV 996)

Frank Martin:

- Quatre Pieces Breves (pour la Guitare)

Nicolo Paganini:

- Grand Sonata For Guitar Solo

Isaak Albeniz:

- Leyenda

Banjamin Britten:

- Nocturnal Op.70

William Walton

- Five Bagatelles for Guitar

If u need the transcriptions, contact me.

Cheers ;)

You can find published transcriptions of Joe Pass chord melodys, playing through one of those will definetely get you accepted (as long as you do it justice) and you will learn so much in the process.
