Helecasters AKA Jorgensen, Ray and Donahue show a wide range
of playing styles all of which are brilliant. Jorgensen is
a rock guitarist with a distinctive tone somewhere between
Satch and ERic Johnson. I forget which parts Ray and Donahue play but they do less distorted bluesy stuff, slide stuff, jazzy stuff, country stuff, massive bends.
The Album Hell 3 New Axes to Grind is absolutely fantastic.
Even styles I don't like usually (like country)really switch my head on and are inspiredly played.
I've also heard escape from holywood and that's a very good album too (but not as good).
Do you guys know of any of their other albums, are they all excellent? Any recommendations?

Love those Hellecasters! Return of the Hellecasters, you gotta hear "Sweet Dreams" and "the Claw/the Beak", I love that kind of stuff, variety, Will ray or Jerry Donahue is producing 2 tribute albums ( Danny Gatton & Roy Buchanan)with all kinds of cool players on them, well my idea of cool anyhow, I think "Cool" is a term that really doesn't apply to many of the popular players today

I've heard of Roy Buchanan - I saw a feature on his technique in some guitar magazine and one trick he had was to bend two strings by different amounts at the same time. I heard he pioneered violining and tone knob fx too. I'm dying to hear some but I'm a tight fisted bastard with my money, can you recomend any particular albums by him or Gatton?

there's a compilation of Gatton's greatest tunes in the collection 'hot rod guitar' Lots of unheard stuff too.

I have RETURN and it's pretty cool, it's nice to see 3 talented guitar players working together and concentrating on arrangements and not just trying to outplay each other.
Are they still recording together? I know Jorgenson got the gig w/Elton John.

Their site hasn't moved for a while, but I have seen a lot of gig dates. There's a banner saying Hellecaster IV, but it has been there for almost a year... I hope it will come out soon!
