I want to start making videos of myself playing the guitar. Right now I'm just thinking of a simple YouTube channel. I want to know if there is an extremely affordable way to make decent quality videos (image AND sound). I'm new to the whole recording thing, so I have no idea where to even start.
Any tips or ideas?

You can get a very good webcam for $50-$100. Check out bestbuy.com (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Computer-Accessories/Webcams/abcat0515046.c?id=abcat0515046)

But would a cheap webcam be able to record decent sound? Right off the bat I would assume no.

I haven't tried this, but I was thinking about it. I think if you wanted great quality, you'd either have to have a high end video recorder, or possibly record your music separately via any recording s/w then dub it over the video you record. Just like the real thing :)
I'm just guessing. It's possible you can get decent video cameras that can take a midi input or something directly as you record. I'm really not sure what's out there.
Have you tried asking someone who's video you've watched?

I've found that my little 8 Megapixel digicam seems to work fine for youtube. The video quality, while poor by most standards, works just fine for the little youtube box, and as long as you dont have your speakers and amps too loud or too close, the sound quality is acceptable as well.
