DigiTech RP500 Modeling Pedal
The simplicity of a stompbox with the control of an effects switching system.
The RP500 operates in two modes, the default mode at startup is Pedalboard Mode where the 5 buttons in front operate as labeled: compressor, distortion, chorus, delay, and reverb. When Pedalboard Mode is off then Preset Mode is activated where you get 100 preset combinations of effects, amp and cabinet modeling and an additional 100 blank presets so you can dial in your own personal sound and have it at the ready. There’s a button to turn off the amp and cabinet modeling in any mode so that the RP500 becomes a straight multi-effects box and your amp does the rest.
You can use the RP500 as you would a bunch of different stompboxes or you can use it with your own amp’s tone (bypassing the amp modeling feature), or use the amp sounds inside. The amp modeling feature provides an impressive array of modern and vintage amp sounds including Marshall, Fender, Mesa Boogie, Matchless, Soldano, and Randall Amp tones.
The stomp box section of this unit has been modeled after the most popular effects used today. The distortion sounds include Tube Screamer, Pro Co Rat, MXR Distortion, Big Muff, Digitech Death Metal, and Boss DS-1 settings. The same variety goes for the other effects as well.
The expression pedal provides real time control of the wah, volume or any other assigned effect parameter. One thing I noticed about the pedal is that since it’s not a click on/off switch the wah would turn off easily if you push your toe down all the way, which I do all the time.
The RP500 seems pretty rugged and has dedicated tuner and tap tempo footswitches right on top. I particularly like the tap tempo because you can customize your effects to the tempo of a song on the fly. A delay sounds best when it’s in time with the music and this button makes doing that a piece of cake.
Besides the 1/4 inch input, the back panel features two XLR outs, two 1/4 inch outs, a headphone jack, and an input for an mp3/CD player so you can jam to your favorite tunes. It also has an amp/mixer switch to control output levels, a ground lift switch for hum solutions, and a USB out. As a total bonus, this unit comes with a copy of Cubase LE! Awesome, you can be up and running your own recording session right out of the box, talk about handy.

Special Message for Non-US Members
We deeply regret that we cannot ship contest prizes outside the U.S.
Customs, tariffs, and shipping prevent merchandise from being shipped reasonably between countries.
That is the reason why U.S. music stores cannot sell to musicians in other countries, even as close as Canada.
We originally intended this contest to be run by Ren in the U.K. but we found that just shipping him the gear was so problematic that it would cost more than the contest itself.
Please accept our apologies for making this a U.S. only contest.

I currently have an RP250 and this RP500 would make an awesome upgrade. I love the combo effects in the Digitech product line, but would be really sweet to be able to kick off one of them from time to time using the stomp-box-type buttons on this pedal box. I also appreciate being able to turn off the cabinet modeling for live performances, but still having them for studio use. The inclusion of Cubase LE is pretty nice too, I have to add...

In reading your review on the DigiTech RP500 I was please to see some changes from their previous models. The best one is being able to bypass
the amp modeling and just use the effects straight way through your own guitar amplifier to make your own sound (nice to know the models are there if you want them, though). I think one of the reasons people seriously selecting a certain odel amplifier is for the sound it gives in conjuction with the electric guitar they use. I mean everyone is searching for what they consider to be the "Holy Grail" sound for their guitar. Often effects are used as a part of that sound. I had an earlier model of the Digitech RP moedel pedal and I didn't like all the programming involved with it. This newer pedal seems like it gives you the option of using some stored stomp boxes without the amp modeling which is what I'm after. Then you can program the sound
of the pedal you like and go to it through the selector foot buttons. I like that.

This one can be yours courtesy of our friends at Sweetwater by subscribing to our monthly newsletter and reading the product review for the month. Sweetwater sponsors this giveaway and they are always a real pleasure to deal with. Hey GuitarTricks & Sweetwater!
This RP500 looks like the 'real deal'...looks like it's kind of based on the Boss ME50 & ME70 pedals...using basically, separate pedal modules, but the multi-fx mentality where it comes to editing patches, and whatnot.
I've always loved Boss tones, and use them often...in a pedalboard set-up...you know...with all the patch cables, battery eliminators, headaches, et.al.
Digitech has come a long, long way when it comes to tone, and I think the tone you can squeeze out of their multi-fx boards far exceeds the tones you can get using separate Digitech pedals in a pedalboard. In fact, I have been mostly using the Digitech GNX2 for a couple years now, and I believe they have passed up Boss in tone, whether in pedalboards, or multi-fx units.
So...Digitech, utilizing a 'separate pedal' approach in a multi-fx unit is really, really intriguing to me!
I can't wait to hear it...and thanks to you guys, and your contest, I now have hopes of winning one...IF you'd be so kind as to enter me into the RP500 Contest?!?
Please?
Peace...
