Best song ever in my opinion is Day in the Life by the Beatles. Powerful stuff but not really a guitar tune.
Best solo ever, Brighton Rock by Queen.

i can't think of a specific 1, its a tie between three songs for both best solo and best song. i like long, growing, powerfull emotinal songs. i don't look for long songs, they just turn out that way. so in no paticular order, my three favorite songs/solos are ...
1. Freebird - Lynard Skynard
2. Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeplin
3. Paranoid Android - Radiohead
as i said they are not in any paricular order. a close 4th and 5th were ...
4. Sweet Child O' Mine - Guns N' Roses
5. You don't fool me - Queen
again these are not in order. its strange but all these songs are over 5 mins long. i didn't plan it that way, i just think that these songs are perfect in every note they have, and they have more than most!

That seems a bit of a bizarre choice for your number 5 choice...what makes you put that at no.5 out of every song ever? I'm a big fan of Queen and Brian May by the way.

i just think it is that good!! i also am a huge fan of queen and brian may is the reason i picked up a guitar (brigton rock at wembley '86 realy). i think it is the best song they do and the solo send shivers down my spine. i must admit it isn't their best known song but i think it is faultless

I would vote for estranged (gnr) but i don't like the first part very much but it has the best solos ever.
The best songs are:
1_Welcome to the jungle (the opening riff is so great)
2_Paradise city
3_You could be mine (the drums are awesome and the video rules)

This is bloody hard, depends on my mood but I can't go far wrong with these!
Best songs:
Xanadu, 2112 (Rush)
Coming back to life, take it back, comfortably numb (Pink Floyd)
Sweet child in time, Burn(Deep Purple)
The REaper (Blue Oyster Cult)
Sanitarium, Fade to black (Mettalica)
Tower of Strength (The Mission)
Wishlist, Tremor Christ, Black, (Pearl Jam)
States of Mind, Age of Panic, Stubborn(Senser)
Best instrumental content
Rush -La villa strangiato, Xanadu, 2112 (Rush)
Joe Satriani - The forgotten II, Rubina, Why, Echo, Crushing day
Helecasters - Tracks 1,2 and 9 on New Axes to grind
Vivaldi - 4 seasons esp summer and winter
Tony MCalpine - Evolution
Vinnie Moore -440 days

Said best song ever was 'Day in the Life' by The Beatles. Have thought about what the best guitar song ever is as that ones not really for guitar and this a guitar site.
Find it hard to see past Stairway...it's just a shame it's become so stereotyped.

We've had threads like this before up here, so I'll throw in again for Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd.
Need I say more?
