Learn ENTIRE songs. Might sound stupid, but I wonder how many players can play 50 songs from top to bottom...

Take lessons from a reputable guitar teacher. It will save you years of trying to break all the bad habits you developed along the way before lessons.

It depends do you want to make a career out of it or just play has a hobby?

If you want to go career then seek professional guidance.

If you want to play for the fun of it, like I do, their are lots of learning material free on the net. This website may be the best source for that. Look around, check out the host sections, they're great.

I personnaly bought books of album I liked (Metallica, Iron maiden) and learn their songs. I played along with the tapes. Also, if you can find a jam partner, it's going to help you a lot.

I never learned entire songs. I wanted to get the technique and then create my own songs. The problem with this is you can't play in a band since you don't know all the song. I never could play in a band that played cover songs. Looking back I missed a great opportunity but I have a lot of songs I created, which is good for your ego!

That was my point. Learning entire songs let you share some musical times with other players. But I also consider that writing songs is very important. So do both!!

Learn to fret the guitar properly. (Ask Bruce Kulick about carpal tunnel syndrome)

Learn to pick the guitar properly. (It just sounds good)

Learn to hold the guitar right. (Chicks dig it)

Learn to............

Have fun and enjoy it! It's something you can do your whole life.

Find the instruction that suits your personal learning style and immerse yourself in it as much as you see fit.

Judge yourself by your own goals and not the abilities of others.

And..........Have Fun!!!

All the best!!!!!!!!
