How do you make backing tracks, what software do you use?

This is a good topic.

It depends on what kind of sounds you want.

I use fruitloops if I want a techno sound.

Many use audacity (it is free) for recording their own guitar/etc.

I bought Cubase for that same purpose.

Sony Acid Music Studio has pre-recorded loops you can just mix and match if you want to put something together quick.

For some ready made free backing tracks, you can try GuitarBackingTracks.com
They have some decent ones, some with vocals. I've downloaded Mississippi Queen, Slow Ride, and Do You Wanna Touch so far.

My Favorite program for this was Acid Loops... but it doesn't run on mac. Does any know of something that's as easy to use that works on mac? I track with digital performer, but it's overkill for just making simple loops to jam to.

Hey Lou-

I'm not familiar with Acid Tracks, but I am a Mac person. Have you tried GarageBand? It should have come with your system software.

I'm happy to talk you through it a bit if that would help.

Hey Lou, yea garage band has track you can loop in. I've used it on some home recorded tracks I did. It's pretty easy. There's also Apple Logic that has a ton of loop tracks.

I've used violin and cello with garage band and adjusted the key or whatevere I need in the program itself. I've also just created my own drum loops from scratch.

Using Pro Tools and Strike, the Strike program adjusts its playing to the BPM, so yo can play to a click or any device using this method.. The Strike program has been great for me. And no I am not advertizing ..It really is a good Drum program. You can play to any loop, then give it authentic drum style with the method above.. Amen
