Hi Rod19,

It is kind of going to depend on what type of budget you are working to as to what to recommend to you but as you are a total beginner, I would be guessing that you will be wanting to keep your budget at the lower end of the scale.

Firstly, I would like to advise you to purchase the best you can afford within the budget you have set. So many people start off with such cheap an nasty guitars "just to see if they are going to like playing" and never get any further simply because their guitar is so horribly made and difficult to play that it will never be a pleasure to use!

As a Fender Stratocaster fan and player myself, I would like to reccomend to you either a good Squire Stratocaster (very reasonably priced, yet a decent guitar) or if your budget will stretch a little, a Mexican made Fender Stratocaster which are extremely well made and good value for money all round.

The Stratocaster is an iconic and very versatile guitar which can suit almost any type of music and is also an extremely comfortable guitar to play, I really don't think that you could go wrong with one of these!

Hope this helps
