So, my name is Cory. I'm 19 years old and I literally just picked my guitar up yesterday. It's a Spectrum AIL 275. I'm really interested in learning how to play it. My friends play and all I ever get to do is watch. :/So, I really don't know where to start as far as ....starting. My guitar is stringed but not tuned. Does this place have any help sections that could assist me with this? Anyways, i'm just introducing myself here. Hope to talk with you guys again.

My new buddy.

Must be planning some real hot playing to keep that jug of coolant so close! :D

I'm not sure if you need to be 'Full Access' or not, but if not, there is a guitar 'Reference Tuner' under the Tools drop down. I'm certain you can Google up something similar if you can't get at it.

I think almost anybody would recommend learning to tune by ear, although you could go out and buy a tuner as well. However you do it, you want to avoid way over-tune your guitar lest bad things happen.

I only started learning to play lead a couple months ago and this site has been a great help. Good luck!

I'd say go buy a tuner. Like Razbo said, always good to learn by ear but I think a tuner is good to lock you in to correct tuning every time. The ear for pitch and key comes later. Tuners are cheap. Like this spiffy little Red Fender red Sparkle Tone (http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/AG6Red/) tuner for $19.99 from Sweetwater. To me, step one is tuning.

After that, I highly recommend joining Guitar Tricks because:

A) Lessons here cover everyhting from ultra-beginners to very advanced
B) Great instructors with lots of knowledge
B) Work at your own pace
D) Cheap! (a steal compared to lessons)
E) Did I say cheap?

Most that have been around have heard me say I've played for a long time and can play pretty well already but I came here to a better foundation and to fill in some gaps and I love this place. It's endless.

-but-

As a beginner, the site starts with the Guitar Fundamentals 1 and 2. Like you said, you've had no playing history. The Fundamentals really start from scratch which is very cool. I did some lessons when I started playing long ago and was less than satisfied with the teacher not bothering to give me any foundation. I was lucky that I took to i kinda naturally but some gaps were had because no one gave me those pieces to the puzzle. Here, not missed.

So, that's my thoughts.
