Where in the world have all the drummers gone? My band has been searching southern iowa for a long time. searching for a drummer who would be willing to play alt-punk but not wanting to change the band's sound or image too much. Have you ever had this problem? what did you do? or what should i do?

i live in the Chicago area and have a similar problem. the only thing i could recommend is posting a classified ad in the newspaper and hope for the best.

Gosh, I've once thought about taking a bass or a drum set, I knew it would be easier to find a gig!!
There must be 12 guitarists for one rhythm section!

a while back there was a poll in england done on all proficinal and semi-profecianl band and it said that over 50% of bassests used to be guitarist but switched due to the high guitarist/bassest ratio

that doesn't surprise me!!
When you play classical, you better choose alto rather than violin, because everyone has taken lessons of the latest!!

Drummers are scarce around here too.
Ones that don't suck anyway.

i think the reason is, is because when kids are around the age to wanting a drum-set ( 13-18 usually), the parents say 'drums are too loud', complaints, etc. thats my $.02 for what its worth.

well i started a band with a drummer so i did have that problem however i seems that every band must have one problem or another because we are bass-less and none is to be seen

I relate to all that is said. My problem is my music is so @#$%^ing weird people look at me x eyed in the bands that ive been in( most bands I tried to fit in were conventional jazz/pop/rock-that wanted me to play exactly note for note from a score, a little entrapping after a while). Drum machines and computers are my new best friends, gifts from the creator; I still play with people but no longer rely on them for my sound, I do that myself; this is what makes technology so cool. One of the toys I like is the zoom 123 a cheap little drum machine that plays bass/drums it is my new best friend, besides the cat who is the harshest critique.
