hello, and question i hate to ask

Well i have been paying member for about 3 months, love guitar. I need to get back at the lessons because im forgetting all the basics. So i wanted too introduce myself and ask a really icky question.

While jammin on new years eve i had my guitar on my back with a strap. Well it aimed down towards the ground cause i was watching my friend play. Well all i felt was one end come off the strap and than the other(i literally didnt even move to make it come off)...So its a epiphone SG-400, i looked it over and i dont see any cracks or anything cause it fell about total of 1foot on good carpet. So it plays and sounds fine, other than the retune i had to give it. Think it will be okay? Are they pretty durable to withstand some abuse like that?

Otherwise im loving the site, got me feeling good about guitar and im sure after my metallica concert in 2 weeks i wont be able to set it down.

Man I feel your pain :eek: I am for lack of a better word "dirt friggen poor" so if my guitar gets damaged I could very well be outta luck. I have a relatively cheap acoustic guitar that I have been learning on. Anyway my shop is where I don't keep my car but have my computers, TV, recliner and where I practice and play. I had set the guitar up on the chair to do something I don't remember what now but I hit the chair. Of course the guitar fell off and hit the concrete floor and sounded like the end of a Jimi Hendrix concert :eek: I thought for sure it was done for but its fine although it has a bit more character now. So I guess it was a lot tougher than I thought.

Hi Steve,

Ouch, i've done that too, it's the worst feeling..."oh, I'm sorry guitar!!" is my feeling after.
A quick fix is to use a bread tie from a loaf of bread, the little square plastic ones? and while your strap is on just clip it over your strap peg and I should keep your guitar from slipping off.

Ouch!

If you don't see any damage, then she's probably okay. That's not to say that seeing how much "abuse they can withstand" is ever such a great idea. There's always that one little episode that will break your heart and change your mind all in one big swoop. Glad you made it out of this one unscathed!

I've seen some guitars take a real pounding. My dad's Gibson acoustic managed to get stepped on right thru the back. That required some fixin, but it has lasted and sounded great to this day. I know I feel every bump I give mine and I have a sense of how heart wrenching it must have been for you. Happily, it sound like it will live :)
