I was just wondering what everyone thought about the Peavey 5150. I was about to buy one over the beginning of the summer, but didn't have the money, so I just went to the music store, and played there 5150 all the time, and I had an awesome sound, but when I finally did buy one off of ebay, it had a totally different sound, less metalish, more poopyish. It was different, and I heard that some 5150's are way different than other 5150's. I ended up just using a metal zone through it to achieve that metal sound I was looking for, that the 5150 at the music store had. Does anyone know about this?

I know that when I've played it, I thought it had a lot of unwanted sounds, at high volumes... Maybe you should try to change the tubes?? I've heard that some of them make a totally different sound when changed, or if they are new or used...

Yup, it were probably the tubes that caused the main difference in tone.
I have a 5150, and it sounded a lot sweeter after I changed the tubes.
(I'm sure there are some "dud" 5150s out there though, just a matter of bad luck getting one of those, maybe that was the case with yours)

It's a high end amp, I think they are tested before being released? Man, if I had paid the 2000 bucks for one and get a dud, I'd set the store on fire...

If you pay $2000 for a 5150, you're being ripped of beyond belief! ;)

Normally it runs at about $700, for the head only.

That's weird, I live in Belgium, and that's the price I paid for it.
