Sorry I haven't posted in awhile, my net's been down...

The other night, my beloved SG was propped up on a chair while I was plugging in my pedals, and gravity did its thing... I thought it was stable but wouldn't ya know it, it hits the floor.
I had a light fixture I've been meaining to install that was sitting next to it, and the SG lands on it. It's made of hard-empered glass, for which my SG's meck is no match for. Now there's this huge, nasty serie of gouges on the back of the neck spanning the 11th to 9th fret.

It really really hurts, I mean, this was my first guitar, and the finish has had time to wear off where I've played it, it's got the whole nasty wear-down on the rosewood fretbaord between the frets thing going on, and it felt like heaven to me until this faithful meeting with my light fixture.

I have two options: either sand down the finish and part of the wood to get rid of the gouge and then refinish it w/some oils and satin finish and such to give that smooth, Kramer-like feel, or just make the plunge & buy a new neck.

I was looking over some different neck options at Warmouth and noticed they could scallop the fretboard. I know Yngwie among others plays guitars with scalloped necks, but unfortunately, I haven't been able to find anyone I know who has a guitar w/a scalloped neck, and of course, Mars doesn't carry a Yngwie signature Strat, so I'm relying on you guys.

Does neck scalloping actually aid in playing as was said or is it a hinderance? I can understand the logic behind it, but want to know if it works in practice.

now, only the part from 12th fret and up are scalloped on the Yngwie guitars.. and on some JEM the 4-12 frets on the top are scalloped.. (i'm not 100% sure.. ) but i got a friend who had a guitar which was scalloped all the was.. and u had to be careful playing it.. esp chords.. for not to bend the chord note out of tune.. if u don't intend to do so..

i prefer a neck that isn't scalloped.. and even Yngwie says it's harder to play on a scalloped neck.. but on the other side.. it's easier to express yourself when u're used to the neck... but try one before doing something that could be stupid!
