I thought I would ask everybody what type of gear they use. Personally, I have a 120 watt Blue Voodoo half stack. My effects I usually use vary from my Bad Horsie Wah Pedal (of course) to my Creamy Dreamer sustain/distortion pedal. If you don't have any gear but want to or are thinking about getting some feel free to post that too.

I'm going to be getting my Marshall 1960 with a 100 watt head soon, I hope... Until then I'm playing out of a JBL amp designed of Public Address, or a Peavey somethin'-or-other. I use a Zoom 505 Multi-FX processor and a Digitech Whammy Wah.

Can't beat Marshall stacks for sound. I tried Fender, Crate, Peavey but the kick just ain't there. What else....
Boss ME-11 effects, Cry Baby Wah, Roland Guitar synth...somewhere in the crawlspace I got an old Heathkit Fuzz Box (big oooh!!) that I actually assembled myself.(bigger oooooh!!!) that sounds like the lead guitar from the Rockford Files theme. (no way!!)

Im using a Strat througha Laney 60 watt combo. I also use a Zoom 505. Im planning on getting a new guitar in a year or so. Either an Ibanez or something. Not sure yet.

I use a Line6 AX2 212 amp with a '78 Gibson Les Paul, a modified beatup Strat, a Jazzmaster, and a homemade "Miller" guitar for the electric rig. A Stone practice amp (if any of you find another one, tell me) and a Fender Princeton practice amp.

For acoustics i have a '74 Fender Redondo (the ones with a strat neck), a 50's Harmony, a Jason, a Takemine classical electric, a Yamaha AEX acoustic/electric, and for recording i use a '78 Fender Precision Bass, a mandolin, and a Peavey bass i need to sell.
Also here and not mine are a Strat with hot rails and a jackson stealth.

UPDATE!!! I've now decided to get Rocktron's Ganiac. I played around with one the other day and it was incredible, it adds that crunch that so many metal guitarists strive for. Woohoo!!!

I play A Kramer Striker FR422 and one of those cheap Hamer Slammers (with two humbuckers and a single) in which I've put a Duncan Custom SH-5 (bridge), a zoom gfx 707 (takes a long time to figure outhow to get a good sound out of it, but I finally did, but it'smore of a practice tool anyways), a Morley Sapphire Flanger, an Arion Digital Delay, a Danelectro Fab-Tone, a Peavey Classic 20 (handmade all tube practice amp), and a cheap Yorkville half-stack w/ a 150 watt head & a 2x12 angled cabnet wih celestions (the amp's distortion is very muddy and bad, but it has an exellent clean channel due to it's solid state design, so I use pedals to get the sound I want). I'm selling my half stack and getting a Crate GX-1200 full stack w/2 4x12 cabs and a 120 watt head in like two weeks though. I'm also planning on getting a Johnson J-Station, I was just about to order one when I got the AMS Catalouge in the mail that has the Crate stack I just mentioned on it.

I decded not to get the stack due to it's size and weight (I'd have to buy a van to haul it around), instead, I'm buying a Blue Voodoo 60 watt 2x12 combo.

my main everyday set up is a Fender Jazz Bass w/ EMG pickups into a Peavey Session Bass head and an older Peavey 2-15 cabinet. I can relate to all the stack transportation problems, that's alot to move around. But anyway, I also have an azden wireless and a gemini powerconditioner in my rack w/ the amp head. I also use a stock J Bass V, and I own a Strat and a Tele.

For pedals I have a DOD Bass Grung (which died, I'll be replacing it w/ a DS-1 I think), and a Morely Bass Wah

I use a Sovereign guitar which i bought for $150 CDN, a 15 Fender Squire practice amp, $5 strap, Fender Super 250 10 guage strings, a Boss DS-1 distortion pedal, and my new Marshall Jackhammer distortion pedal. Dunlop picks all the way http://www.guitarforums.com/gtubb/smile.gif

I've been playing for 7 months with an Epi G-310, boss octave, boss blues driver, dod chorus, and a fender frontman 25r, which actually has a cool distortion, as soon I'm good enough maybe in another 7 months i'll go all out and get a new rig, that'd be sweet. I'd love to have a Tele, a ton of effects, and something by marshall.

i have a crappy fender mexican strat with about a million chips in it, seymour duncan hot rails in the neck position (bad choice, should have got the bridge position one...)ernie ball super slinky 9-42 strings, zoom box (never use it, it sounds crappy when you turn it up, sounds fake) a good crybaby wah wah, and a kick @$$ marshall half stack with a jcm 900 head and a 1960A cabbie which i lovingly call "gozer" http://www.guitarforums.com/gtubb/smile.gif. (its all torn up in the back from trying to fit it in my trunk, i put duck tape on it and wrote gozer on it with a pentagram)

I love my setup right now... I have a bogner extasy 100w head with a bogner 4x12 flat front cab. The clean tone is absolutely AMAZING. I run through a lexicon MPX G2 with the MPX R1 controller. I love that processor. I also have a small effects board with a crybaby wah, phase 90, boss super shifter, dan-echo, and an electro-harmonix phase/chorus. For guitars, I mess around with any one of the following: a Jackson sl-1, a lone-star strat, a custom shop strat, a PRS swamp-ash special, a PRS mccarty I, a PRS mccarty II, a gibson les paul custom, a gibson howard roberts fusion special (killer jazz tone!), and i'm dying to get my phil collen signature series guitar. So basically I have way to many guitars. But I love my setup.

I've been using the same rig since the mid-60's, a 1965 blackface Fender Super Reverb and a 1968 Gibson Les Paul Custom Fretless Wonder. I've tried difrferent pedals over the years, but always ended up plugging straight into the amp and pushing the volume until it starts to sing. I've also tried other guitars over the years and my main guitar right now is a 1999 Fender American Deluxe Strat (love those noiseless pickups). I play in a contemporary Christian church band and can't dime the amp anymore, so I finally gave in and bought a TS9 Tube Screamer, which sounds good; I wish that it had a little more attack. I also added a Danelectro Chorus and Delay to thicken the sound of the Strat. The Dano pedals are some of the quietest I've ever used. One of the reasons that I quit using pedals in the past was the noise - I finally figured out that the preamp of my Super is so hot that the noise generated by transistors and microprocessor was always audible when playing quietly. That's why I like the Ibanez TS9 and the Dano pedals. I tried a Zoom 505 which was a lot of fun, but still put out a lot of noise that was noticeable with my Super. I tried the 505 through other (newer) amps and didn't notice the noise.

I use a Cort CL 1500 through a Boss ME-30 to a Marshall valvestate VS65R. I'm planning on buying a JCM 2000 TSL 100, but my bidget isn't big enough, yet. If I have enough money, I will also buy some other effects, bet heh, I'm only sixteen.

As far as amplifiers go, i use a 100w peavey "bandit 112" and when I plug in with my acoustic I use a Fender Acoustasonic SFX 100w. And for effects I use my DOD Tec4 because of my lack of anything better. I want a wah pedal, I'll probably end up with a Bad Horsie.

My everyday setup is a pieced together strat (fender neck, G&L invader HB strat sized pickups, PRS bridge, & a strat style body a luthier made for me) through a whirlwind a/b box hooked up to an all tube Crate TV6210 60watt combo/w 2-10" speakers for lead playing and a Peavey Prowler (all tube 45watt 1 12")for rhythm/clean tone. On the floor I have a Boss delay, a DOD chorus, and a 80s dunlop crybaby. I also have a TS9 Tube screamer from the 80s, but I dont use it any more, since the crate has enough crunch all by itself. When I get into a jazzy/fusion mood I just plug straight into a Carvin SX200 2 12" 100w, which just about the best loudest clean tone Ive heard.

I play a Yamaha EG303 through a marshall 30watt practice amp. It's tough, the action is a couple centimetres off the fretboard, and the only distortion I have is the one through the amp. Maybe if I ever get a job I'll be able to buy some new gear.

I love my acoustic though. It's a Simon&Patrick Pro Rosewood and it's got great tone and volume.

Here goes:
'91 Ibanez RBM1 Voyager w/Duncan Screamin' Demon in the bridge position
Epi Les Paul Custom Black Beauty w/Ibanez HB2 in the bridge position
Ovation Balladeer
Peavey 5150 120W tube head
Marshall 1965B 4x10 cabinet
Marshall 1960A stereo 4x12 cabinet
Digitech RP-14D Multi-effects Amp-modeling floor processor (great for practicing w/out an amp)
Boss OD-1 overdrive (rarely used)
Boss DS-1 distortion (haven't used in at least 5 years)
DOD Wah/Volume pedal (also rarely used)

My Ibanez was made in their Japanese custom shop. This exact model was only produced for one year. The next year they changed the cosmetics and really uglied it up. Then they started producing them in Korea, like most of their guitars, and the quality suffered.

I just sold my Peavey Classic Chorus 212 combo and bought the 5150 head and Marshall 1960A cab. I also just put the Duncan on my Ibanez. Sounds perfect. I'm thinking of picking up a Boss GE-7 EQ pedal soon...

I sold my Marshall halfstack, and got a Mesa/Boogie head and a Marshall 2x12 cabinet. Still keeping the Line6 for home and the Fender Bassman will be A/B'ed for dirty rhythm. Also, I am in the process of selling my 70's P-Bass. I think by thursday it'll be gone... poor thing. Later,

Just thought I'd make an update considering my gear has now been totally rearranged. I'm now playing straight through the 5150. And you know... I like it a whole lot more than using all the effects I had at one time. Anybody else change their gear lately?

Man, this post is old.

Yeah, I got rid of that crappy Yorkville last year and got a 120 watt Blue Voodoo half stack.I normally plug straight into it, but I'll occasionally use a delay and a flanger. I'm about to get a Bad Horsie wah (so I can explore some new songwriting posiblities).
I still have the 2 guitars mentioned earlier in this post, but I've added a fixed bridge neck through body Kramer Baretta and a Kramer Vanguard pro (neck through, original Floyd Rose trem, gototh 16:1 tuners, 24 fret rosewood fretboard, Rhoads body style, Seymour Duncan Custom Custom in the bridge, Duncan Pearly Gates in the neck, alder body, etc.., etc...).
I also switched to Dunlop Gator Grip 1.5mm picks a good while back, and I use .10s on the 2 neck through guitars.

Seems like I'm hooked on the Kramers. I tried some ESP, BC Rich, and Ibanez guitars, but I just ended up buying more Kramers.

I'm currently considering either a Marshall AVT 2x12 or some modeling 2x12 (possibly a Crate) so I have something I can fit in my car for band practise. Currently, I have to put my car's top down to fit the Voodoo in it, so there has to be good weather before I can haul it.

i'm using an Ibanez S540FM, Marshall Valvestate 100W amp, boss gt-5, beatup copy fender strat, yamaha LW15c semi acoustic. Hope on buying a LP standard real soon, but the thing is, these guitars cost a fortune !

For going loud I use a Marshall V265 stereo chorus with the Korch 1000AG multieffect. At home for practise I use an old fender champ 12 watt tube amp, overdriven it's getting real loud (i heard the nabours say.)I will never do it away. For the big work I really want an original tube amp. In Holland you can buy Korg, a really great tube amp but expensive. I have an Mexican Fender Strat, it's a good guitar for the price only my frets are worsening. Also I own a Charvel model 4 for fast playing and a Brownsville with three pickups for pieces with different tunings.
For recording on my PC I own a little behringer mixer and a Zoom drum computer. Also I have a keyboard my children won't use anymore.

I use a Japanese '68 Fender Strat reissue(from 1986 I believe), a crybaby wah, a Peavey Ultra-Tube 112, and a POD for the amp. A lot of folks only use them in the studio, I guess(I've done that also), but if you can't afford a Johnson, and want to use different amp sounds, I think it's the way to go. I also use a TakamineEG330(#'s probably not right, it's an old one, though) and aTrace Eliot TA35 for my acoustic. However, I'm planning on going to a Taylor 314CE or a similar Larrivee model. Has anyone got a suggestion as to which one is the best way to go?

Rather than have somebody start a new thread asking (yet again) who uses what, I thought I'd resurrect this thread and see if anyone else has any new toys. As for me...

I've got a pile of receipts 'this deep' from all the amps and guitars that have come and gone over the last 34 years, but here's what I have at the moment:

19?? Washburn EA20-12B 12-string electric/acoustic
19?? Washburn EA20MTS 6-string electric/acoustic
(mid 80's?) Washburn A-20 6-string electric (weird-looking beast)
(mid 80's?) Odyssey V built better than either the Gibson or Epiphone Vs (sounds better too!)
1986 Yamaha SBG-1000 double cutaway Les Paul copy ("Brand X", my main axe)

Update 13 July: The 1977 Daijon 12-string acoustic w/Shadow bridge p/u has been sold to someone who appreciates it. Its in good hands, and my collecton is down to an almost reasonable level.

1991-4 Peavey Rock Master tube pre-amps (3 of 'em!)
1977 Ampeg VT-22 120 Watt, 2x12 tube combo
197? Ampeg VT-40 60 Watt, 4x10 tube combo
1997 Gallian-Kreuger Backline 100 100 Watt, 1x12 transistor combo
2002 WeeBeastie 5 Watt home-built experimental amp
197? Garnet 4x10 cabs (2 of 'em)

Plus the usual assortment of stompboxes 'n such, and a Samson CT-3 wireless that I don't use very often, 'cause I get tangled up by the delay it causes.

I use a cheap Fender Squier Affinity Strat, which I replaced the bridge pickup with a Duncan Hot Rails (I love the sound I get from it) through a Peavey Stereo Chorus 212 and a Digitech RP-300 processor pedal. You can get just about every sound you'd ever need through it. I find it easier (and cheaper) to mic your amp rather than buy stacks. To me it sounds just as good.

Hi, I'm new here but I'm a regular at Stone Dragon's forum and I just stumbled on this one.
My equipment in order or purchase. A Lotus Jazzmaster copy (lousy intonation) a Cort soloist copy, an Ibanez Les Paul copy (do you see where I'm going with this? An Electra MPC Les Paul copy and yes my newest baby, a '96 Gibson Les Paul custom in ebony with 3 SD's.
I run everything thru a Roland Gp8, a crybaby wah and an occasional Ibanez Dist pedal. My main amp is a Peavy Bandit 50 but it just died and I'm using a friends Peavy 5150 combo till he makes, and I mean makes me give it back. Unfortunatly, when I give it back, I'll be using a Leem 50 watt cheapo till I get my own 5150. Best amp I've ever used. But then again I've never used a mesa stack so I'm not saying its the best period.
Speaking of best.
I just got my LP custom and I do love it but I'd swear that my Electra is a better sounding, better feeling, lighter guitar. Maybe I'm just not used to the Gibson yet but I'm kinda taken aback. I've had it exactly a week and for the first 3 days I never put it down. A couple days ago my buddy came over to jam and we were kinda rockin out and I felt the urge to go back to my Electra. I did and since I've not picked up my gibson. I wonder if it's just me, if my Gwas not the wholy grail I'd always hoped for or if it'll just take much more time. Well as for my Electra, it's not completly stock, I did change out those pickups with a 490R and a 490T and went with new pots a while ago, you know tapped and so on. I'd swear that it sounds just as good, and I can play it better. Hmmm

When I bought my Yamaha SBG-1000 in 1984, I paid about CDN$650 for it. The Gibson LP Custom that I decided not to buy was CDN$1300. The Yamaha was, and still is, a better guitar.

Its as simple as that.

Nothing fancy:

Fender Mexican Strat (with Dunlop strap locks - highly recommended, also shielded, also recommended)
Traynor YCV-40 amp - all-tube, 40 watts
BOSS MT-2 Metal Zone pedal
BOSS DD-3 Digital Delay (I basically own this, but technically it's borrowed from a friend)
BOSS Super Chorus (same ownership situation as DD-3)

That's all, folks! I am looking to buy a wah-wah pedal soon, and also a BOSS GT-3 (I found out Music123.com sells them for $269 USD - the cheapest I've ever seen them).

Fender Mexico Strat (Midnight blue)
Marshall VS30R (now going up in price, as 30W valvestates are no longer made)

Digitech RP300 - unbelieveable amount of FX
Custom maple body Gibson 345 copy - a guy who lives near me makes these at bargain prices. Unbelievable tone.

General use: Sirocco Crossfire 4.1 amp and subwoofer, 4 Boston Acoustics CR6 monitors.

19?? Washburn EA20-12B 12-string electric/acoustic
19?? Washburn EA20MTS 6-string electric/acoustic
(mid 80's?) Washburn A-20 6-string electric (weird-looking beast)
(mid 80's?) Odyssey V built better than either the Gibson or Epiphone Vs (sounds better too!)

Update 13 July: The 1977 Daijon 12-string acoustic w/Shadow bridge p/u has been sold to someone who appreciates it. Its in good hands, and my collecton is down to an almost reasonable level.

I run one of two guitars, a home made thing botched together from the remains of a hohner rockwood strat copy, I basically tore it apart, made a new body for it out of some maple my father in-law sold to me, used the original neck, heavily sanded to a slimmer profile, sliced the annoying bulge off the bottom of the headstock and filed it to a point. For the electronics, I just wired two of the existing singlecoils in series for a nice humbucking tone, but fitted a flick switch behind the bridge to split the coils. I just put the volume pot back on and ignored the tone pots, (why bother?) it plays quite well all things considered, and this was my first attempt at customising a guitar (I've since made and sold 3 other guitars for friends)
My main guitar is one I bought from my brother, it's a BC Rich gunslinger pro, as standard, I messed around with the string height a little, and shimmed the neck, so it has a really fast low action and it just feels right

Amp wise, I only have 2 small practice amps, a 15 watt samick, that I've owned for around 10 years, and a 15 watt 'park' (by marshall) amp, which came as a package when my brother bought his BC rich. They're both solid state, although the park has a richer sound, more tube like than the samick. Probably due to the varying gain and overdrive setups they have more than anything

FX wise I used to own a Zoom GFX707, but I sold it, and swapped it for a bunch of stomp boxes, I use a Boss AC-1, and a DOD YJM308 preamp pedal (this is a killer pedal, yngwie malmsteen uses one) as well as a Boss phaser and a morley wah!

For playing out live, I would borrow my friend's Marshall JCM DSL stack, which I once managed to knock off the stage of a small club! I always wanted one, but expenses of being a father of 2 (soon to be 3) always prohibited me from acheiving my dreams of owning a GOOD rig!

Update: I just read about a tech21 double drive pedal, which I just HAVE to own, it's an analogue circuit, which emulates both class A and class A/B amps, it's just great (And being tech21 the tone is about as close to valves as you're gonna get)
