Is there a way to make my strings a little closer to the neck so I don't have to apply so much force on the strings ?
Hi... what kind of guitar do you have?
What you're talking about is known as the 'action' - distance between the strings and the fretboard. You should e able to adjust it easily by lowering the bridge, but it depends on the type of guitar.
If you do lower it, you need to get a balance between getting it low enough to be comfortable, and high enough to avoid fret-buzz...

Don't forget, once you do this you'll have to adjust the intonation as well.

There's probably six movable saddles, with 2 small screws in the top of each one. This is where you'll adjust the action, and it may require a small allen wrench.
