Use a clean setting, add a little bit of chorus perhaps. Maybe some delay, use the neck pickup. The important aspect of jazz isn't so much your tone but your phrasing.

turn your tone knob almost all the way off, and try to attack the strings so your attack is almost inexistant, then, try to play 4 notes chords, an lines with chromatic notes in it

Pat Metheny tends to roll all the tone off his Gibson, but less on his Ibanez. YOu want to be able to roll the tone off to create a very warm sound, but I tend to keep a bit of treble in there for a little bite and definition. Put the mids nice and high on your amp, with a nice amount of bass, and again put a little less treble than you otherwise would. Use the neck pickup of the LP (which were made for jazz in the first place) and as little gain as you can. A good option can be turning the gain on the clean channel down, with master volume up very high, then turn down the volume on your guitar. This will give you a very clean sound, with a lot of warmth.
