Hello All!
I'm starting to experiment recording with my laptop. My first big trouble is that when monitoring or recording, wether using laptop mic input or USB audio adapter input, I get a HUMM noise, but only when laptop's AC adapter is plugged in. When im running just with batteries, i get no noise.
I read about ground loop issues, but since the only thing plugged to an AC outlet is the laptop adapter, it might be another thing... any help?? Thanks in advance!

Ever try a different outlet? Just guessing here, but maybe the line noise is from that particular outlet. Hopefully Lordathestrings will see your post; he's an EE and knows all about stuff that can fry you :)

Another trick you may wish to try mate, and believe me, it's NOT an old wife's tale..keep your electricals seperated. This means..no overlaps, no powerchordslaying about one another, etc.
When this happens you'd be shocked at the amount of****e that occurs because of ill planned pc placement as the PC itelf puts out a nice little annoying HUMMMMMMMMM!!!
Also, you may wish to ivest in THICK covered recording implements, instead ofrun-o's the mill ****e!
Good..luck..mate..plenty.of.viable..reourcesl.out there!!!.NE CORBUNDEMMM SI ILLIGITMIA!!!!

Isolate the ground plug (if U have one) on ur lap top. 3 prongs turn them into 2.
99 cents at a hardware store. Sounds like a 60 cycle hum.

Since this only happens when the AC adaptor is connected, you need to keep that noise source removed as much as possible from the rest of your setup. The audio input to your rig may be picking up the magnetic field around the power transformer in the adaptor. This could be anything from the pickups of your guitar, to a poorly-shielded audio cable. Try putting as much distance as possible between the adaptor and everything else.
