Hi...I am in Cincinnati Ohio. Are there any others who are from my area? I am looking for women musicians to work with. I will gladly play with men as well, it's just that I am trying to put a project together to do some recording with an all girl band. So, If anyone is out there and interested, please contact me via email directhex@cinci.rr.com
Thanks!

I have respect for your cause, I really do, but please, don't end up like Kittie... there's a local girl band I'm friends with, and none of them seemed to understand that the reason no one went to their shows was that sure, they could PLAY like the guys, but well, you get a cute 5'4 blonde at the helm who tries to growl like she's from Static X or Gwar.... it doesn't work, it's amusing, but it doesn't work.
As with someone of either gender who goes into a band situation looking to achieve a certain sound, make sure that the style and tone of your music and equipment matches what you can't trade to a pawn shop: your voice. I've heard some bands with female lead singers whose sound was just truly stunning, and others that made me want to jam a pencil in my ear.... I understand wanting to fight for equality in rock performance but spare my ears....
My girlfriend is a mezzo soprano/alto who sings traditional Jewish music, so when she finally started guitar, she got a Telecaster (actually, it's my beloved 50th anniversary '52 RI, but when she plays it it's truly amazing how it and her voice match up; it's like the first time I laid down a track over my SG: instrument and voice as one being. I'm actually using a cut of her singing/playing a prayer in Hebrew in the end break of one of my really hard songs, about the worst relationship i was ever in).
The reason it took her so long to get into guitar is one of the most ridiculous excuses ever... sorry, i'm rambling, it's 4:15 and insomnia has set in, and i'll probably regret typing this in the afternoon when i check back...
adieu

Thanks for your input/concern. I have been doing this for years in other locations. I just happened to move here recently and looking for some new musicians to continue with. I have no "cause" or whatever. LOL. Don't be afraid....

Ok... actually, do us all a favor and stick around... every now & then a girl comes here for like 3 days and then leaves, other than that i think we're mostly all males

Hi Pony....I intend to stay. Thanks for your advice in your earlier response and please accept mine in return and in the spirit that it is intended which is not meant to be a negative one. Perhaps greeting women to this forum with some encouraging words, instead of assuming you have what they are about all figured out and then being critical of that, would keep them around longer. Just a thought.
Thanks for listening.
Respectfully,

I knew this great female musician just before I finished highschool, she played a few shows with us, and everything was going great. For the first time my life I actually felt like I had the perfect lineup, hpowever every good thing must come to an end. Just when it seemed like we were actually going some here as a band, she decided that she really wasn't into the whole idea of being "Rockstars." But I told her a thousand times that we were "musicians." http://www.freakygamers.com/smilies/s/contrib/edoom/cussing.gif She was amazing, but where ever she is right now, in college I assume, I wush her all of the best. So, I'll just say hi Shelly. :)
However, once she left, the other members in the band simply lost confidence in one another and decided to pursue other options. Since then, I've been unable to find the perfect voice for my songs. So yeah, I'm lookng also looking for a female musician. :) bAs long as she's not evil, http://www.freakygamers.com/smilies/s/contrib/edoom/SpiningDemon.gif

Some chick bands could get fairly heavy and still sound good.
Celine Vigil could/can purr, scream, and roar almost in the same lyric- really made a lot of Seven Year Bitch's stuff hit home.
Also, for a "boy's club" this one is pretty tame (most of the time), I hope you stick around.

They used to hang out on top of my roof which used to bother me a bit, but now they just hang out in my sock drawer. At first they were a bit of a problem, but since my drawers have never been so clean before I've decided to let them stick aroumnd. And they no longer leave those nasty droppings around. You can borrow them on the weekends. http://www.freakygamers.com/smilies/s/contrib/edoom/bitehard.gif

You're right...so far it doesn't seem bad at all. I have been quite amused actually. Seems like there are a lot of young "boys" (quoting a couple of you with that word) here. Am I right? Which is ok....I never plan on growing up myself no matter how "old" I get. Too much cool stuff to play with in the world.

oh jeese.. dont bring age into this!! We range from about 15 to 50+ (I'm not mentioning names)... Yeah, but we're all kids at heart...(I'm 18 by the way)
I'm Educatedfilm (a screen name which i now regret but what the heck, poeple just call me Ed)... I didn't notice the big welcome cheer that comes when a new guy...um.. person joins...So here it comes, me being the first:
Well welcome to the board, we hope you hang around (and not post 6 times and then dissapear, which we get a lot around here...)... There are some really really knowlagble poeple here, who can help you with even the most bizzare and specailist stuff, but most of us can help out in stuff here and there....
Hope you enjoy you'r stay here!
:)
ps if you though any of this was amusing, oh just wait till it's gets political!!! Some really cool arguments...

Is it just me or does anybody else think it's strange that almost all bands consist of male band members.
I mean females are supposedly the more emotional of the two sexes and you'd think they'd be the first ones to express themselves in song, yet it's always guys who write the sappy love songs and put bands together to express their emotions in music.
A friend of mine thinks it's because girls don't take the time to learn instruments because they spend all their free time dating, talking on the phone and shopping... which kinda rings true in a way. Most guys are more into moping around in their bedrooms alone with nothing to do except learn guitar.
He swears that if a girl is really georgious with a killer body and long blond hair, there's no way she's going to learn guitar cause she's too popular with the guys and rarely spends time alone long enough to put the effort into learning.

the most immature are those who take everything as "critical" or "insulting"...
See what I meant you "cause" was was really, honestly, nothing more than finding other women to be in a band with.
But hey if you want to get all huffy about having a cause...
You know, seeking out other musicians who are female just becasue they're female is just as elitist as an all male band turning down a girl/woman just because she's a girl/woman.
Welcome to the board.
