I've never liked contests that involve having the audience pick the winner.
All it means is the guy who has the most friends with him, is the one who ends up winning.

The public is voting online to select 10 players; then they will be judged by a panel of judges.
Check this quote from the official site:

“…the 10 players who gain the highest votes from the public and the panel will be invited to perform in front of thousands of guitar fans at The London Guitar Show on Saturday June 14th (NEW DATE!), and will be judged by a panel of top industry professionals.
There are thousands of Pounds worth of prizes up for grabs, massive promotional opportunities and international recognition – plus the winner will be opening up for the legendary JOE SATRIANI on Sunday June 15th on the main stage at the finale of The London International Music Show!…”


I know that many of the competitors are reaching out to the public thru online social networks like myspace, facebook, etc.

But in the end they will be judged by a panel. What makes it fair. IMO

Nothing worse than entering a contest and then having the winner picked by audience applause.

hah, seeing gustavo up on top makes me feel a bit better. i was doing a cover of malmsteen's "far beyond the sun" and i just remembered feeling pretty sketchy with my own version after watching him rip it. the man has some killer chops, no doubt.

Yeah, Guerra is pretty amazing. Any clue as to what kind of guitar he's playing?

He is sponsored by Crafter Guitars, so that's mostly what he plays. Other that that, he has a Malmsteen strat and several Ibanez guitars.

I found the Guitar Idol site last week when I was watching MattRach on Youtube. I followed his link over to it. Matt is an incredible player and I like his videos. I am going to have to take the time to watch some of the other guys on there. I think that when it comes to this kind of thing it seems like the top 5 to 10 usually deserve to win and its a shame the others have to be qualified as losing. But sometimes the guy who comes in 2nd or 3rd moves on to greater things just from being seen in the contest. So its probably still a good thing.
