Hey guys

I'm looking around to buy a half stack (or high powered combo) pretty soon and I need some advice.

I'd like something no more than $2000, all tube, loud enough to play small gigs unmiked with a really really good clean sound. High gain is not necessary.

Any suggestions?

Thanks so much

A vintage Ampeg V-series will fit your needs, and come in at less than $1000.

Combos: VT-40 4x10" 60 Watts, or VT-22 2x12" 120 Watts.
The VT-22 has more clean headroom. Either amp will blow the walls out of the room when cranked.

Heads: V-2 & V-4. These are the head-only versions of the VT-40 and VT-22 respectively.

All have 2 input channels that share the tone controls. Those tone controls are the most flexible setup you'll ever see. The controls are true boost/cut over Bass, Mid and Treble ranges, with adjustable centre frequency for the Mid control, and an additional switch setting for contouring the upper treble. There's no Tremolo on these, but the Reverb is better than you're likely to find on any new amp. Amps made in the mid-to-late 70s have Master Volume, which works well to rein in the power. Clubs these days don't like the kind of volume levels I grew up with. You may not get to turn one of these beasts loose in public.

Best bang for the buck out there!

Vox AC30 would also suit your needs and fit your budget.

the sound, but not necessarily would range from psychedelic 60s, to prog weirdness, to early punkiness, to avant-garde, to jazz, to country.

i know... kinda weird...

thanks for the suggestion tho, everybody
