Walking basslines

does anyone have a tip to play basslines with chord stabs while comping a jazz tune, because I have come up with a couple of my own, but I'm in a rut...

Always try to connect to the next chord from a whole step or half step
ex; (A-)A B C E (D7) D C B A (GMAJ7) G F# G A B A G G#
Always put the comp on beats 1 & 3
outline chord tones with chromatics

When my teacher was showing me this technique he had me learn bass lines from a Ron Carter book and apply the chord stabs to them, sort of a backwards appraoch from how a guitarist usually thinks.
