How high can you bend a string?
I can bend up to 2 1/2 steps,
and thats the higher i have ever heard a guitarist do,
do you know if there are songs with 3(+) steps bends?

Yeh, my guitar teacher gave me the tab for Lenny Kravitz - "Are you gonna go my way?" today, and his guitarist apparently does three-fret bends in that. Ive not heard the track or tried playing it yet, so i cant be sure...

How far you can bend a string depends on the string and what fret more than anything...do a bend on the 12th fret of the low e string when youre drop d tuned sometime and if youre not playing an acoustic you just might bend farther than you would think you could.

ive never checked how far i could bend a string but to be honest, i dont think ive ever gotten 3 frets.

I wasn't talking about frets (semitones) but whole steps (tones),
speaking about frets, i can bend up to 5 frets (2 1/2 steps),
i havent heard anyone bending 6 frets, so i wondered if you have heard anyone do that

I know how to bend 6 frets...tune the e string down to a c :D

Just make sure the string doesnt snap when working with bends. that always sucks.

I just tested myself and I can bend about five frets too. However, it just isn't practical. Unless you want to slow your playing right down to get it, there are very few times when it would make sense to do such a big bend when you lose a fair bit of accuracy when going fast.

I can do a unison bend on a bass. That's good enough for me.

Is it just me, or are huge bends really evil.. I've got small and very strong little hands, and although I've not really tried more than once, I'm sure I can snap any string except the low E, but my problem Is I've got a floating bridge with raised action so I can actually pull it back as well, so why bother whith huge bends, secondly the fact that you go out of tune....
oh well...
