I can never quite find my right tone it's either to high for my taste or too low for my fender amp. I have my high set @ 5.5 lows @ 6 & mids @ 4.5.

of course, it greatly depends on the guitar and the amp you're using. are you using any external effects like distortion? those often have their own tone controls and can really affect the sound. maybe you should try a small EQ, like a Boss footpedal or something. I have a Fender ultimate chorus, and i set my lows at 10, mids at 3, and highs at 9. but i run my guitar through a Boss metal zone combined with the overdrive on the amp, and combining two distortions is really hard to work with because of the buzz and tone control, but for some reason it works for me. exactly what fender amp do you have?

Also, a good amp can do great things at highlighting limitations of your guitar. What kind of guitar do you have? No matter how much you play with your tone controls, a guitar that is suited to the kind of tone you are looking for is the most necessary element in finding the right tone for you. If your guitar simply doesn't have good bass response, your eq settings won't be able to fully boost the bass without making your sound muddy and dull, which could be why it seems like your amp isn't dealing with the bass very well.

Just get a parametric of graphic(or paragraphic) EQ. That'll give you full control of your guitar's audio spectrum.

I have a Fender stage 112 amp and use a Ibanez guitar. The thing i can't figure out mostly is that when i get to a lower sound it makes me sound like I'm playing in a tunnel.
