sperzel tuners?

how do you use sperzel locking tuners? is it hard to tune it to say drop D then tune it later E without trouble? thanks

I play a Fender American Deluxe Strat with Fender/Schaller locking tuners. I'm assuming that the Schallers will be similar to the Sperzels. To string the axe, you loosen a thumb screw on the bottom of the key, pull the string through and tighten the thumbscrew. I then tune to pitch, stretch the strings and retune. There is no problem tuning to a drop D or other and returning to E. However, if you have a locking nut - these usually require loosening with an allen wrench for string replacement. Fine tuning is done at the bridge. I don't know if the tuners have the range to tune down to a D or not.

I can only add that Jon is right about the locking nuts. My experience is that if you do have a locking nut then the locking tuners are not necessary.

Further, and this is just my opinion, but having played a boat-load of guitars with and without locking tuners, if you are properly stringing your guitar then you don't really need locking tuners unless you are using a whammy bar a lot with a traditional nut. But even then, you still have the problem of nut friction.

Any good tuners will work fine if you install your strings properly. And Sperzels weigh a lot relatively speaking, increasing the mass of the headstock. I could tell a difference on my Strat when I put them on.
