Uneasy with my guitar? any suggestions?

Hey guys, i been playing on a ESP M-100 for a while but im passed the phase of being a metal freak and i think the strings are too close to each other, i want to play a more relax blues / jazz / classic rock music from now on, such as santana, guns and roses, and the like, ive been thinking of getting myself a Gibson Les Paul, as i heard those sounds and they sound very good and the strings looks a lot more spaced out than my guitar, any inputs pleasE?

I have similar guitars and the major difference you'll feel is the string tension. The les Paul having a fixed bridge it has more tension. You'll probably also go from a 24 fret to a 22 (my gibson is 22 frets.) this will also come into play. Shorter neck, more tension.

I have an SG which is lighter but has the same bridge as the Les Paul. I also have a Schecter which has a Floyd Rose. The difference in huge. I won't bend has much on my SG, but I'll play faster. You see, your style will adjust to the guitar. At least that's what happens with me.

So be sure to try it out a lot before buying because the strings might be more spaced but other factors may bug you a lot. I happen to love gibsons so I'll always tell you they are the greatest guitars!

I would definately take Benoit's advice and try before you buy....
I also am partial to Gibson since I play a Les Paul Standard. Great guitars without a doubt, but they are an investment. Be sure it's what you're looking for because that Les Paul model displayed in your post carries a hefty price tag........

well the problem is, im not that experianced as a guitar player so im not sure id know what im looking for, im an apprentice right now.

If your not that expierenced, I wouldn't jump from a $200 guitar to a $4000 one (unless you have a good paying job.) But an LP sounds like the best choice for you.

I'm not an EMG fan myself, but if you are then cool. I guess you probably pay a premium for the Zakk model - you could acheive the same thing for less I imagine with an epiphone custom and have the EMGs fitted if you wish afterwards.

It's all personal preference man.... me? I'd be selling the LP to buy a guitar with a Floyd... At the end of the day, if that guitar does it for you - buy it! I would suggest buying from a store unless you're happy doing your own setup work etc... that way you can play before you pay.

hey guys, i was wondering one more thing, since i dont know how to play that well, once i try the les paul i want to buy and feel comfy with it, should i feel ashamed to ask the salesperson to play some stuff for me so i can hear some good sound potential out of the guitar?

Why would you be ashamed? Your buying a guitar, so you need to make sure you know whats its potential is. If you can't play it, ask someone else too. If they make fun of you, kick them in the balls and give the sales commission to another employee.

Except for the kick, I agree. I asked the kid in the store to play the guitar a bit when I was in your position. The only thing to keep in mind is that a good player will make a guitar sound good, and a bad one..... bad....

It may not really tell you anything. It's also not relevant unless you plug the guitar into the same model amp as you have. It can't do any harm, but rely far more on your gut feel than what anyone else says or does - that's my advice...

It is hard to go wrong with a stadard strat with some texas special pickups in it...very very flexible playing range AND it sounds amazing for the price.

I wouldn't worry about it. You've got the cash, they want it. They won't say a word and if this guy is a decent salesman, he'll do what he has to do to make you comfortable with your purchase. I say, go for it. :)

oh ok, thanks guys :), but for the amp you said, right now i dont rly have one, im playing off my computer, but i heard i could buy a Mbox to make it sound a lot better? i dont rly have the budget for a good amp right now. i have it for a good guitar though hehe
