Jon, is it possible we could have the chat room back?
It seems kinda weird that it's been taken down when so much effort went into putting it up there in the first place. The chat room has always given a different element to the forum, and I think the forum benefits from having one available.
Just because not many people have used it recently doesn't mean it was never going to be used again. Recently I've been busy with my degree so I haven't been able to find time for GT as a whole, but now that I'm done with that for the summer, I was quite looking forward to getting back into the Wednesday night chat session. Unfortunatly people do have lives outside of GT and so maybe it came as a coincidence that not many people were able to get on into the chat room.
I've noticed that there hasn't been a whole lot of activity on the message board recently, at least compared to what there was, but that doesn't warrant closing the message board down, so I don't see why this was the case for the chat room. Besides, what harm is there in having the chat room available?
Please? :)

+1,000,000!
At least give us a good reason for not keeping it, rather than not much activity in the short time that you kept an eye on it. If you can't think of a good reason, then why not just bring it back? It's obvious people want it, and will miss it if it's not brought back. GT has not left a good taste in my mouth lately, and I hope things can turn around for everybody :(

Just as another thought, if you're wanting there to be more people in there, then why not advertise the chat room in the monthly newsletter? In particular the Wednesday night chat session.
Just a thought.

I'm with these two guys, it's obviously being missed, would it do any harm to bring it back? Please :)

I too would love to see the chat room come back, and would definately make an extra effort to be in there more and help promote it.
After all that chat room is very special to me... without it I wouldn't have met my future husband... :D
It is a bit discouraging lately to see these services start disappearing from GT... I didn't realize how much I actually used the member list until it was gone. And now with the chat - It appears GT may be on the decline. I hope that isn't the case, but from a members standpoint, it looks that way.
So if this is a petition to bring back the chat room... Please include my vote..
Jon, please bring back the chat.

Just another thought... As much as "full access" costs now, I think a chat room should be offered whether it's used or not. I think the powers that be need to realize just how important the forum, and all of it's aspects (including the chat), are to the rest of the site. Just because the forum doesn't make the site money doesn't mean that it should get the shaft.

Wow, when was the price jacked up? I have it billed to my debit card and I never bothered to check the log since it was only $5. I'm kinda P.o.-ed there wasn't a notice or a private message.
It was raised to $7 a while ago I think and more recently to $10.95.
Seems like we're not getting a lot of notice about anything anymore.

Leaving the non-paying members out of the loop is one thing... leaving the paying members out of the loop is something completely different!

If I'd known the chat room was going to be taken away, I would have chained myself to it ages ago.
It can't hurt to bring it back, can it?

I agree Jon. When I had ample time to be on GT not too long ago when I'd see anyone and I mean anyone in there I'd usually pop in and see what was going on. It was a really fun little feature.

Oh dear.
After the whole being out of school and being kind of busy thing kept me away from GT for a while (as has been mentioned...people have lives outside of GT) I sure didn't expect anything like this to be going on. I haven't looked into the whole "schmange being banned" incident yet...but I'm sure that's no better. I don't get why every good thing has to get killed, I really don't. But I won't go into any rantings here, I'll just cruise around the forum and see just how far things have gone.
Count me in as a "bring back the chat room," though. While you're at it, I'd also like to be a "bring back the member's list."

While you're at it, I'd also like to be a "bring back the member's list."
Good point, whenever I want to pm someone I have to go wading through threads looking for a post from them so I can click their name, and it isn't always easy if that person hasn't posted in a while.

Ditto
Well, I only ever went on the chat once, but it was fun and I'd use it again if I saw people in there. You guys seem to have a point - the cost is going up whilst features are being removed.
As Eric said, the forum is the social side of the site - and whilst it may not be revenue generating, that doesn't necessarily mean it has no bearing on site revenue. The chat is an extension of that...
Can we have it back Jon? afterall, if no one uses it, you won't get a bill for the bandwidth... :)

I agree the chat room will be missed and while the forum and the chat may not be direct sources of income they are a draw for the site. Obviously from the reaction here the chat room is missed and I hope you will bring it back Jon.

He actually got rid of the members list because Bots kept trying to download it or save the user information or something like that and it was putting a large load on the servers. I miss that (as well as the chat) too. My idea would be add one of those number/letter boxes where you have to type what you see in the box so you prove your not a bot (like when signing into secure places and such.)

to tell the truth, I barely ever used it. However, when I did, I met some new people, had a nice talk or two with others. Its nice to see how someone acts outside of just their posts.
I guess you dont realize what you're missing till its gone.

It's a busy time of the year for a lot of peeps at the moment so board activity is down allright - still not a good idea to remove the chat function though. People come for different sections of the board and they always end up checking out the areas they havent gone to before. To quote Robert Plant "Bring it back! Bring it back! Bring it baaaaacccccccccckk" (ala Battle for Evermore)

I also would like the chat back. Now that the school year has ended and I've graduated I've got more spare time for chatting.

I remember a certain........interesting conversation during the France/Italy final world cup game...Remeber that one Akira?
I was about to go on right now.....and I noticed it was gone.
I made some friends there, so hopefully you can put it back on. We all have had good times there.

Well, All,
I don't usually jump on a bandwagon, but.....
I joined GT without a chat room, and think my money is well spent here. The lessons are awesome, and I learning a lot in the lessons and the forums.
That said, I would certainly visit a chat room occasionally to chat, maybe even ask an occasional question there instead of posting it. I think it would be a nice addition.
So, considering the newness of my membership, I'll not say "Please bring it back," but rather, "Please add a chat room!"
Peace,
Tom

Word has it Jon is considering a 2 month "trial" to see how often it gets used.
It's progress but I don't quite see the point in a 2 month trial, i'm back to the "people have lives out of GT and can get side tracked" argument, but whatever.
P.S. Fenderalltheway, I remember that convo yes, it made the football much more enjoyable.
The thing is, I don't think Jon realises how important the chat room is, I've gotten to know some members of GT really well through the chat room, e.g.:
PRSplaya
Tonja_Renee
Jolly
Earthman
Magicninja

silentmusic (if it wasn't for the chat room I would have never have met him at all)
How many more points do I need to put down?
