It was here and now it not. Did someone hijack his name and post this?

I deleted it. Apparently somebody complained to Jon about something or other to do with my unprofessional posts, so I'm kinda confused and talking things over with Jon now.

Somewhere along the line some newer members are complaining about posts I've been making that aren't professionally related to guitar playing and objecting to the fact that the posts I've been making have nothing to do with teaching guitar.

Needless to say, I'm kinda confused cause I figured everything we say in the forum here is a way of educating the public about what the music business is about...in particular, what to expect when you actually submit music to publishers and record companies...

But hey..

If I'm gonna get censored in what I say and what opinions I have to offer, I'll just stop posting altogether.
I'm totally against censorship in any shape or form and if I have to be moderated in what I say then, I have nothing to say at all.
If I can't present the truth as I see it... it isn't worth printing.

Even moderators need to be "moderated" sometimes. We all have to follow the rules, members and mods alike. However, I see no reason that thread should have been deleted. What exactly did the whiny person find offensive? All seems a bit childish if you ask me.

Humm I had no problem with the post. I was just confused at the end.

Please don't stop posting because some ( explicative deleted ) has to complain about stupid stuff. Your insight is too valuable to lose.

I know you and I have our differences at times, but I still think you're an asset to the GT forum community, and obviously the money making part of GT . I along with everybody else (apart from the little complaining douche bags) would hate to see you stop posting in the forums.

I thought that the post had some useful info and was posted in the Open Discussion Forum.
I don’t see what the problem was.

Lol.

If the person who complained about schmange's post doesn't complain about that, they need to be smacked.

Well, glad I saw it before it got deleted. Congrats on making a good living at it Kevin - long may it continue. I don't see you needed censoring.

Some of the new guys are a little fragile though - I've recently got negative reps for the first time ever for very minor comments...

I'll never understand people these days. If you don't like a particular web page, just don't go to it IMO. You are only 1 (sometimes 100) person out of millions so who are they to say what a web site can and can't hve on it. I understand GT is a service, and that a paying customer has a say in what material their son/daughter sees on the site. But something as far as a forum post that basically said "Hey, you see guys, even some random shmoe like me (no offense Kevin) can make a decent living in the tangled music industry of today. I have your back Kevin, you shouldn't be censored, especially over something as silly as that.

Maybe schmange could just use his instructor account to make professional posts about guitar playing, and just use another to talk about whatever he feels like.

Cunning eh? amiright? maybe....

Uh, I read the post and for the life of me I can't come up with anything that was even remotely offensive, objectionable or in need of censoring. Frankly, I thought it was a great post - it's nice to see that people can actually make a comfortable living doing what they love and that is a lesson that needs to be taught MORE and not less today. What I read was 'Do what you love' and that's what matters. The rest will come.

I wish someone had pointed that out to me as a younger man so that I would have chosen a career path as opposed to stumbing into one that I really don't care about.

Kudos to you Kevin. I think it's inspirational. It's an open forum. Doesn't that mean it's supposed to be 'open'?

My guess is that someone's parent(s) saw it and was freaked because OMG, you're encouraging kids to do what they love and not something safe...like becoming (egad) another lawyer or orthodontist....

I honestly don't have friggin clue what the problem is.
All I know is I feel like I've had my testicles chopped off and have to censor what I say from now on. And if that's the case, I'd rather not post anything at all.
Part of my personality is to tell it like it is regardless of whether it offends a relatively few idiots who take offence.
But it's Jon's website so I gotta follow the rules he sets out.
so I'm castrated and censored and therefore I say screw it... I'd rather not post at all if I can't be myself.

Just my own opinion, but if we're gonna bow down to a relatively few conservative idiots, it ain't worth the hassle.
So, I'm outa here except to post professional answer to questions from members, from now on cause apparently that's what Jon wants.

The way I see it you're a far more valuable member of this community than some bitch who's too cowardly to come out and tell you when they have a problem with your post. I always appreciate your posts here.

Damn. I missed out on seeing "the" post. Sounds like it was good too. Whatta bum deal though. Not professional? He's a dedicated promoter, player, and instructor whose apparently experienced it all with bands, the road, tours, album sales, production, etc who shares these perspectives. Sure he openly boasts how he can sit around all day making sandwiches and do nothing, or be able to do what he loves and get paid for it. And for that, I thank him...he leaves no secrets to the attainability and processes of becoming a legitimate professional independent musician.
So, as Kevin's technical and social involvement in the forums is easily the most of all the instructors, his absence would certainly be a huge loss.

I'll just ask that input be heard from those appreciative of his total contributions....and who have also $paid$ fair amounts of dues!

>Sure he openly boasts how he can sit around all day making sandwiches

cheese and branston pickle sandwiches on toast, with freshly ground pepper, dill pickles and raw spring onions and salted crackers.... yum.
Followed by hot chocolate or diet pepsi. yummy.

I could eat that stuff all day long.

I say Repost it as is...............But if you could please add a photo to get a visual on the "short skirt segment" would be much appreciated.....................
Funny thing was that the post pertained to music.
I've received some Neg Rep before........ Some People perceive things differently when they are written. Guess it has to do with society changing the way of entertainment where many don't read as much and don't understand the humor unless prompted by adding in "Canned Laughter"....
For someone to find offense from that post and for the "Super Mod" bringing it to your attention, is beyond my intelligence. I just don't get it, with all that you've provided in helping so many on this site.
If you stop posting............. I'll stop posting..................

This is all ****ing bull****.

Censor that... oh... wait...

But really, what a load of carpo.

Schmange is a very valued member of the board. He has a professional out look and involvement in the music business, the information he gives regarding the music business is invaluable to people like me who want to get into the music business.

Not to bring LATS into it, but few people on this board know as much as he does about the technical side of things when it comes to guitars, amps etc, and few people know as much about the music business on here as Schmange.

If Schmange stops posting then I might consider doing the same as this is all just stupid.

I too missed the infamous post, but quite frankly, I'm looking into pursuing a career in most unavoidably... music business (or something closely related, as we all know the hit it big in a rock band is the first wish  ) Point being... if someone else is already doing what I wish to do, then the help and advice sure would recieve a nice welcome wagon.

Well, I just talked to Jon on the phone and I'm banned for a week.
So there ya go. I guess I don't blame Jon. I take prescription medication once a month and tend to ramble on a bit...quite frankly I don't even remember what I wrote. So what can I say...if I offended anybody, my sincere apologies.
Either way, I'm banned from posting once a month from now on. & if I post anything like that again, I'm banned for good.
So if ya don't hear from me for week, that's why.

Ya know, this has to be one of the best guitar sites on the net (thanks to Jon Broderick and his team) so it's more than a little disturbing when an instructor and valued member of the boards is censored or asked not to post! so who exactly has been offended? and more importantly, why? this is no Harmony Central forum, infact at times it can be too strict! so how the hell has anybody managed to be offended? maybe we need to realise that you can't please all of the people all of the time, you can only please some of the people some of the time, so lets take a look at the people we're try to please,

June brought a new record for Guitartricks.com. On June 21st, a total of 1006 users were seen online at the same time. We have always had thousands of visitors per day, but this is the first time we have recorded over one thousand at the same time. This is amazing news! Months after months guitartricks.com is becoming an even bigger meeting ground for musician all around the world. This success is in great part due to members like you. Members that, day after day, come to share with us their tips, tricks and stories. Thank you.

Pretty impressive eh?

So now lets take a look at some statistics.

GT currently has in excess of 446,700 members! thats nearly half a million! that's good!

GT has over 202,300 posts on the forum! that's less than half a post per member, not so good!

GT has over 20,300 threads, thats less than 1 thread for every 22 members..........not....very....good?

And when you take into account that alot of forum regulars are full access subscribers surely you don't wanna bite the hand that feeds you? But then what do i know except success can be it's own biggest failure, for the sake of GT lets hope not! Long live Schmange!

And just incase this post gets me bannished, nice knowin y'all and long live Schmange

What can I say dude.
I totally respect Jon and completely understand where he's coming from.
After all, I'm one of the guys who's been pushing him and been on his case for the last few years about promoting the site and making it what it is.
Then I go online once a month and act like a total dick apparently, spouting off about god knows what... I don't blame him for getting freaked when I break my own rules, and then people complain about it.
I take prescription medication once a month that completely screws up my memory..especially if I drink beer with it. So if I act weird once a month..that's why.
for the most part I can keep control of it, but occasionally it shines thru.

Actually, the post did sorta ramble off at the end. Something about orgies. But it wasn't offensive, it was just really incoherent and confusing.

And that was only the last paragraph. You'd think Jon would have just made you delete it or something...

I concur 100%. I was thinking "wow, that's friggin awesome" until I got to the last paragraph. It was basically incoherent jibberish (perhaps you took the pill or the last beer before it) and made me think that the whole post was spam or you'd started the thread and walked away from your computer and a nephew of yours hopped on and finished up for you.

I also join in with the "banned is BS" sentiment.
