Ok, I got this thing I´m wondering about.
A preamp amplifies the signal before it goes in to the real amp, But what does this do with the tone?
What is it good for except for amplifying the signal?

They all do different things. If you wanna check out some really good preamps then go to www.rocktron.com (http://www.rocktron.com) .

A preamps doesnt amplify the sound(at least not much), its gives the sounds its shape. You get your equalisation and gain from the pre-amp.So you basically get all your tone from the pre-amp.
The signal from your pre-amp goes into your power-amp, this will amplify the signal so you can hear it thru the speakers. The power-amp is were you get your volume, and sometimes also presence.
Fx-loops are right in the middle of the pre and power-amp, so you get your fx behind your distortion, like you would do when you use alot of pedals, and no amp-distortion.
so you would have : guitar => pre-amp => fx-loop => power-amp => speaker
