Calling all axe lovers. Coated Guitar strings

Hello people i am kind of a beginner. i have a relitivley new acoustic guitar, and play on average of about 2-3 hours a day. Just wondering is it worth me paying the extra Tenner (£) for coated strings (Elixir for example). My strings (martin 11 medium gauge) do seem to loose thier Brightness after about a week.
I mean i'm not exactly playing the most streneous riffs, and am not rinsing my guitar to its full capacity, but i have only changed the strings once in about 6 weeks. Is this bad for a new geetar? Is the body/neck still gonna be resting into shape and putting more stress on the strings?
Or are there any strings you would reomend please?

Hello Max - well, I have a set of Elixirs on my acoustic and I really like them. They seem to have a mellow tone and I find playing fingerstyle much easier (for me) with them than on the non-coated strings. Of course, that could be all in my head too...The only advice I can give you on strings is to go with what sounds good to you for what you're trying to play.

Yeah, I know. Not the greatest advice. Stick around. The other folks here will have much more informed opinions.

I love the Elixer Nanoweb acoustic strings. The Polywebs are ok too, but the coating on them is a bit too thick for my taste.

Just goes to show, to each his own. I absolutly hate elixers. Worst string I've ever used. I could never understand the hype about these. But as they say your milage may vary

I used to swear by them; they do last longer than regular strings as far as rusting goes, but they seem a little muted opposed to regular strings, I've noticed. Or maybe thats just me.

My opinion definitely differs from others, in that after playing Elixers, all other strings sound dead as soon as I put them on. I haven't found a "regular" string that doesn't sound dead out of the package in a very long time :(

I love Elixers. I have them on my Strat, my Les Paul, and my acoustic, and yes, they last longer, sound better, and rock harder than any other strings do.

I had the same set of Elixers on my Jem for over a year - they never went out of tune (at least nothing the fine tuner couldnt fix) and I gave them a lot of abuse. I recently decided to change strings and popped on a set of Super Slinky 9's and after about three days of tuning then retuning they finally calmed down and became stable... but the difference in tone was significant! The Slinky's are a lot brighter, have better sustain and a clearer fuller sound. I used to clean my Elixer's obsessively so it wasn't a build up of grime, they just had a flatter tone than the non coated strings. Certainly worth trying out though. If you are a tone junky then you might find them flat but if you want super longevity they are perfect.

DR is all I use...the colored ones suck though...they feel silky and sound great and last a long time.
