Alright, its Grizzly's turn to start a ridiculous generic topic. Oh well...
Anyways, I've found myself becoming an acoustic-instrumental nut. After learning Bron Yr Aur, I've been hooked. So, I'm looking for other inspiration elsewhere. I've already started learning "Little Martha" by Duane Allman. Its not all that hard, but theres a few parts that are throwing me for a loop. Its an absolutely joyous song. If you haven't heard it, you must. Once I get my new good acoustic, I will lay down a version, but theres some bar chords in there that I can't play on my current gear. Just can't get all the strings down.
Anyways my list just basically consists of Bron Yr Aur (by Zep) and Little Martha (by Duane Allman) thus far.
I want more! Especially by people who typically play rock music but played an acoustic number.
Suggestions? What are your favorites?
I look forward to hearing.

Check out "Clap" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOAiPa8PO8A) by Yes - amazing playing by Steve Howe. Also, one of my favourite songs ever (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqhUCWNcTxg) sounds amazing played just on an acoustic.

I saw .... crap, I'm terrible with names.... the guy who did that album Harvest Moon. Anyways, he did a solo of that song, just him and guitar. Nothing difficult or impressive or anything, but it was like... yep, that's how it's supposed to be done. Total professionalism, perfect from beginning to end and even though his singing was off key in places and the guitar was really minimal, it was still the best performance I'd ever seen a guy do live.
Neil Young. Finally remembered it.

Man, Steve Howe is a wizard. I can't even imagine how time consuming that would be to learn. Awesome.

James Taylor has some great acoustic stuff. It's not completely acoustic, but most of the main guitar parts are acoustic. All of his stuff would sound awesome acoustically anyways. I love the song "fire and rain." It's such an amazing song, and he has the absolute best voice ever for the kind of music he plays. I can't get enough of it. You should maybe try out some Cat Stevens stuff. He has a few good acoustic tunes. Also, as funny as their songs may be, check out some Tenacious D stuff maybe. Heck, KG graduated from Julliard at age 13, after majoring in classical guitar. Just about all of their songs have great acoustic parts somewhere.

Well my favorite instrumental to play on an acoustic, though I don't have a classical. Is Dee by Randy Rhoads. Its very short, easy and really beautiful.

Keller Williams is a phenominal acoustic player. Some of the riffs/licks in say....... Freaker by the speaker, are nuts.

A couple more:
-Jethro Tull: there are tons of amazing acoustic guitar parts in their songs: "Mother Goose", "My God", "Skating Away" and "Cold Wind to Valhalla", to name but four.
-John McLaughlin: he's got solo albums full of acoustic stuff, plus most of his stuff with Shakti is acoustic, and there are number of acoustic Mahavishnu Orchestra tunes as well. But as far as acoustic work goes, he's best well known for his work in a guitar trio with Paco de Lucia and Al Di Meola (add those names to the list as well): vids of those concerts and sessions are on the web. Here's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEZrB_FDw4c) a great one.
-Baden Powell, if you're interested in Latin stuff.
-Stan Getz, if you're interested in Latin/jazzy stuff.
-Nick Drake - folk singer-songwriters can kick ass at guitar too!

Also check out "Sketches In The Sun" on 12 string electric by Steve Howe on youtube. He makes it sound like theres at least 2 guitars playing. Crazy stuff.
I've watched the "Clap" vid a few times now. I'm addicted.

You sound a LOT like my dad. So much so that I'm willing to bet you're secretly him.
I'm with Ben on this one: anything by Nick Drake. Anything off Pink Moon in particular, because that's the album with just guitar and him singing. Pure genius.

Back in the day, you weren't taken seriously unless you play Paul McCartney's "Blackbird" and Paul Simon's >"Anji" (http://www.amazon.com/Sounds-Silence-Simon-Garfunkel/dp/B00005NKKV/ref=sr_1_5/102-6198058-4003316?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1178770387&sr=1-5)<.

...Paul McCartney's "Blackbird"...
Yes. That's a great tune. Fun to play, too. The last year I took lessons I wanted to play that at the recital, but this girl was already doing it so I had to do "Georgia On My Mind," which I screwed up. I wouldn't have messed up "Blackbird," though.
Curse you, fate!

What a second, isn't it your Dad that you're always cracking on for saying goofy things? :) Hmm. Maybe I do sound like your Dad. And I don't think I'm your Dad but if I am;
1) Where were you last night?
2) Is your homework done?
3) Get out there and cut the grass.
4) No, you can't borrow the car.
Okay. I feel better.

Being that you loved Bron-yr-aur, naturally there's also Zep's other acoustic instrumental (+ Bonzo on percussion) Black Mountain Side. Also recorded on BBC Sessions was an epic 8:00 min electrified version...White Summer/Black Mountainside. It's also in an open tuning.
Otherwise a few of the ones I've especially played a lot are Babe I'm Gonna Leave You-Zep, From the Beginning-ELP, Greensleeves, Wish You Were Here-Floyd.
Also, Tom Petty's pretty fun and relatively easy: Learning to Fly, Runnin' Down A Dream, Into the Great Wide Open, etc...
Forgot one of my earliest songs that really stretched my pinky...Is There Anybody Out There-Floyd.

I LOVE ANJI. thats one of my favorite acoustic instrumentals to work with. its really easy to improv off of it and do your own thing.

anyways, those are all great songs.... Dylan gets credit for the sick song, but all goes out to hendrix for making that song what it is today. And I kinda dislike his vocals, so It all worked out well for me.
