How do you guys feel about Guitar hero. I myself play it, and so do some of my guitar-playing, and non guitar playing friends.

Some people hate it, and some people love it (me).

I want some oppinions of some other real guitarists.

if you have time, respond. :)

I bought the first one literally the day it came out... way back before anyone even knew about it...... Played it to death... Then people finally noticed it and everyone and their mother started playing it..... subsequently making it no longer cool.

Now there are thousands of kids out there that think they can play guitar just because they can press 5 colored buttons.... Now whenever people play guitar hero around me... I just get out my real guitar and jam along with the songs.

Guitar Hero 2 has some good songs... but the good songs are canceled out by all the terrible songs on it...

I neither love nor hate it... but I do absolutely stink at it... and I like to think I can play a guitar.

Gives my mates a laugh watching me though... :D

Well I own 1 and 2 ... never got very far on the second (lack 2 songs on expert to beat 1). My best friend and I use to play alottttt. Actually he just recently won the big tournament held here where we live. LOL... always pick on him about being my guitar hero. I havent played it since around Christmas last year. I apriciate the fact that buying and playing that video game gave me the itch to pick up something I tried and failed miserable back in highschool. Now all I do is play the real macoy, and cant see why I should play a game where now I can do the real thing (or at least give it a hell of a try...lol). I personaly like the game, and think it was an increadible concept and idea. Guess thats why the made sooooo much money off this game. They got something right.

I never played it, one of these days I might give it a go if a see it on display. IMO, people should spend their time learning the real thing if they're gonna play this for hours on end.

Yeah, I have respect for the people that are inspired by the game to learn to play guitar and actually stick with it... But the ones that I have a problem with are the ones that just act like they can play guitar since they can play Guitar Hero...

I don't know anyone who thinks they can play guitar because they can play guitar hero... that's just stupid...

While I'm playing guitar hero, people like to ask "Is this anything like playing guitar/is it harder than playing guitar?" In all honesty, I do have an easier time with some of the songs on real guitar than on the Guitar Hero game...but thats only because I'm used to it and play it often. Its fun and all, but it gets monotonous after you've played all the songs. I think they came out with an expansion pack for more songs...anybody get that yet and is it any good?

If kids spent as much time learning music as they do playin games the world would be a better place.

It did give kids who would never hear real players to hear their songs.

What good songs are in the game?

I went to a youth retreat where there was a guitar hero competition on a motha friggen huge screen. It was the tune jordan by buckethead. Wow.

Best post ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To feed my curosity, if you would be so kind, which would you say that you are better at playing? The toy, or the real Mccoy?
2)On average, how many hours would you estimate, that someone would need to spend before beating the game?
3)Would you say that you spend more time on; practicing the toy guitar or the real guitar?
And last, being that I've never tried the game and only seen it in action on a couple of funny video streams, would you recommend getting it? Since I would starting out as an absolute beginner on the toy guitar, sould I start with game 1, or will the years of experience playing my real guitar help me advance to victory?
Thanks in advance for your help......

It's got some hand techniques that are similar to playing the real guitar so having experience with the real guitar helps you with the game to a degree.

I would say from personal experience with the game. The only thing I can think of that I could see usefull from the game to the real thing would be rythem. Wether you are pressing a button and triggering the controller or picking the actual note on the guitar. It has to be at the right time or it wont sound right. Thats just my take on it.
