Nice Magic. You jumped on this one. Great tone.

Ninj - First cab off the rank, and it's damn good! Beautiful tone as always, and your playing had an awesome Santana feel on this track. Liked the main motif a lot.

Nick - Again, great! Very tasteful, atmospheric playing, you wove your lead in with the backing track really well.

It's been some time since I've contributed anything to the Solo Assignment thread - and perhaps that's for the best :o. But I've got a solo here (in bad sound quality, again), and if you think it's worth it, I'll see what I can do about recording it properly.

(The tremolo effect in my intro is intentional, not a glitch)

Aside from the poor sound quality, that was awesome jiujitsu. Seriously. I like your style. Jived very well with the backing and I liked the trem effect you gave it in the beginning. I believe you should participate in this more often. :)

z0s0_jp: Sounds pretty cool....and you're right it's harder than you would think.

jiujitsu_jesus: Great take I can hear everything but your recording sounds like the mic was under a pillow. How are you recording maybe someone could help make the recording better.

marcos!!! that track is dripping with Gibson tone!!!! great job!! the only thing is the backing track sounds a little more "hi-fi" than your guitar....but other than that is was very good.

Nick-good job on that...nice touches ...good fills..nice tone.

Ben-man I wish you could record better!! that sounded groovin'....did I hear a sweep in there??? man you are gettin' better! nice chops in there.

Zoso - Great solo! Really lyrical and rhythmic at the same time. And was that recorded on the Washburn? If so, I had no idea EMGs could produce such an earthy sound.

Keep 'em coming, everybody.

Ben, that was my epi LP neck pup(Duncan 59's)but I got a surprising Strat tone out of it  ----- go to the same link and listen to the "zep slaughter" cut....it was all washburn...even the accoustic bit. <<<I credit the Vox Tonelab with accoustic simulation.
Thanks for the feedback Ben :D

could somebody post the backing track onto a soundclick or something for me? for some reason my computer won't let me download from the attachment, and this isn't the first time it's done this to me. it's happened with previous backing tracks...

Where the hell you been man? I'll see what I can do.

I updated my track a bit. Most of it's the same but there is a little difference. I just wish I could get to sound as good through my speakers as through my headphones.

I just listened to all the takes so far, and thought they are pretty good.

magicninja._ I like your tone a lot, some nice melodic ideas in there too.

Bar Chord Nick._ Nice tone with not too much drive. When I listen your take makes me feel like I’m watching a Cowboys movie. :D

jiujitsu jesus._ I actually liked the tremolo effect at the beginning of the song, I think you have nice vibrato technique going on in there and a melancholic melody .

zOsO_jp._ Some of the phrases reminded me of ZZ Top, I liked the first tone better than the one at the end, it sounded a little muddy and got lost in the background.

Mself61._Nice use of double stops, bends, and good timing. Your take has an inspiring old school style.

Good job everybody!

Hey guys, here's my take: http://tinyurl.com/2927fl

If that doesn't work for you check it out on my myspace: http://tinyurl.com/yr6hbq

Or get it directly from my DMusic: d3thm3tal (http://mkylman.dmusic.com)

...otherwise email me at mkylman@gmail.com

Nick: Why hello there mr. knopfler :) I really liked your solo, really smooth and you REALLY reminded me of Mark Knopfler, keep it up man!

z0s0_jp:...Wow...That's all I can say. Your playing was immaculate, you had a real crunchy-bluesy sound, you nailed the 2 string bends, all around nice job man!

jiujitsu jesus: You did a great job with the tremolo in the start of the song and your playing was awesome, nice job dude;

equator: Nice wah effect man, or whatever it was :) The point is that your solo was cool, I really like your style of playing...now I want a wah pedal! :)

EDIT: I fixed the key in my song, so I changed the link to it, so the link is now: http://tinyurl.com/2927fl

More feedback! :D

Equator - that was great! A good balance between exploration and melody. The changes in tone kept things very interesting, and the distorted harmonies towards the end were - no other word for it - beautiful! :D

Monte - First of all, welcome to GT, and secondly, really nice job! Great phrasing and feel for the blues. I'm guessing that you, too, are a Gilmour fan! :D

Deathmetal - Good job, mate, it's pretty clear that you've got some skills! Very nice sweeping and tapping, and some great jazzy ideas, too. I would have recommended tuning down to Eb for this track, though - but nonetheless, a great take!

equator: Howdy Partner :D Nice take. Some cool tones and effects in there.

mself61: Some good playing I thought. My style anyway. :)

dethm3tal: I listened to both this month and last months tracks as well as some of the tracks you have on myspace. You can play but sounds like this month and last you where out of key. This months track is in Eb. You have some good chops man.

magicninja: I think the new version is better than the first. Nice!

dethm3tal
03-09-2007, 03:20 PM
Last month's was in B right? either way I know mine for last month sucked, I didn't like it and I did it! As for this month, I thought it was in the Key of E, but I guess I was wrong; Where did it say what key it was in? Is it that obvious that it's a half step off?

Bar Chord Nick
03-09-2007, 03:59 PM
I hope I didn't piss you off but I figured if I'm out of key or something I want someone to tell me. We're all here to help each other, at least that's the idea and I have found nothing but help from the people here. Last months track was in Ebminor (I had to ask Julian who composed it) and this month is in Eb. I'm basically a novice so my ability to help is limited. But maybe others could help if you have any questions. You usually don't get the key the tracks in unless you ask. So in the future if you're not sure just ask.

Thanks for that info Nick; You didn't piss me off, I was just a little confused that was all :) Either way I redid the track in Eb so here is the redone version: http://tinyurl.com/2927fl

Or get it from my dmusic: http://mkylman.dmusic.com

and it's on my myspace: http://tinyurl.com/yr6hbq

So check that out and lemme know what you think, it's different but the same, listen to it and you'll see what I mean.

Btw, it's called March Solo(FixedKEY) on my dmusic, and March Solo on my myspace.

sweet tracks thus far. and a fun little funky song to play along to!

my Electric is currently not here, so this is my take on acoustic. the computer mic isnt so hot for acoustics though. :o

rockonn91:
For about the first 50 seconds you sounded kind of out of tune and key, resulting in your chords sounding gross; but around 50 seconds or so when the "refrain" of the song comes around I really liked how the little riff you played there sounded(it's the same one that you play during the outro)

I do realize it's tough to play lead on an acoustic, but nonetheless some of your notes sounded really sticatto(spelling?), so whenever your electric comes I'd recommend playing that same lead on clean electric that way the notes can ring a little bit more; You've definitely got a cool idea going on there but I think it neats some more work before it's dubbed as finished;

rockonn91
03-14-2007, 09:03 PM
yeah dude. the action on this acoustic is so bloody high is a pain to do any lead on it. so the resulting sound often sounds pretty staccatto, which is both on my part and the computer mic's horrible quality. *shruggs*

but thanks man, I appreciate the input. and yeah, Im planning on redoing it electric later. (it wont sound anything alike, that was basically all improv... :o )

I think that I will recorded a short solo today ;)

Fabinus
03-16-2007, 10:28 AM
I've recorded this today, perhaps I will do an other sample because I don't like the distorted guitar that I've played (dubious rythm and a small impressision sometimes).
Else I've recorded it with a Fender strato and a pod xt ;)

Rockonn: Dude, nice job! This sounds MUCH better than on the acoustic, though some notes still sounded like they didn't fit(mainly the intro, and various parts throughout the song) but you cover your ass pretty well(you seem to notice it doesn't fit and then sort of scramble to change); But your technique was great, I think I heard some of the original acoustic in there? But your technique has definitely improved, my only real issue here was that you didn't seem to have any real direction in what you were playing, but it was still all around pretty nice, nothing amazing or mind blowing, but definitely good in my book; keep it up man!

Michael

P.S. March is almost done and this topic in the forum seems to have been dead for like 2 weeks  Just wondering what's going on there...
