Do you go to each forum and look around? Only camp out in Open Discussion? Or perhaps you click the "New Posts" button..

Sure, being that open discussion is on top, it's one of the first parts I look at. Usually I'll take a quick scroll down the whole open community page and see the latest thread titles and responders. See anything I gotta see, I click it. I never click the new posts button myself. Otherwise, a common method I use is the "who's online" part, obviously if anyone is reading/replying to a subscribed thread, but also quickly shows what threads are immediately "alive", and frequently people (guests especially) will be looking at some obscure or ancient but interesting thread I never would have come across. Just to demonstrate let's see what comes up...well, a guest was looking at this thread. (http://www.guitartricks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2966) Makes me wonder what they were looking for that led them to that? Kinda weird. :)

I always check out Open Discussion first, because there's more of a variety. After that I see if there's anything new in Songwriting or anything that grabs my interest in Famous Bands and Artists.

I only check out the other parts if I have a question or if I'm really really bored.

I've got the New Posts link as my browser homepage so as soon as I open it, it just loads up any new posts.
Then I basically just wait for the email notices.

Definitely not recommended though. I find I miss a lot of threads.
There's bugs in the forum software that cause problems with the New Posts button and the email notification so that you only see about 50% of everything that's posted. (email notification turns off if you don't revisit the forum after a reply and the new posts cache empties itself as soon as you close your browser so even though there's a ton of new posts, it reads as if there's nothing there)

There definitely needs to be an admin version of this forum so you can receive every new post in your email whether you visit the site or not.

I look at thread titles and pick that way("Jolly writes a Story" or "My New Axe" I will check out---"Best Amp for Metal" or "Tuning a Guitar" I will not open)....but even that is not a good way of seeing what is happening in GT land

Yay! You'll check out Jolly threads!

I'm a heavy hitter!

Depends...

If I'm sat waiting around and I've got time I'll just work through the forums top down... And if not, I'll check in for a few minutes on threads I was active in before - usually the Music Theory / Technique sections...

I subscribe to all the forum. I get a mail each night telling me which new post or updated post have been created in the day.

You're always a day behind but you can't miss a new or updated post.

To subscribe to any forum, go in the forum and look at the top right side, there should be a "forum tool" option. Then choose the option subscribe to this forum.

I usually start with Open Discussion. I do also use the New Posts link as well as the Who's Online.

If I think I'll learn something from a thread in the other forums, I'll read em, but it usually just makes me more confused and requires a lesson from Eric on what they are talking about..

I rarely subscribe to threads.

I go from bottom up for some reason, kinda like saving the best for last. I look at the titles and see which ones I haven't looked at yet, if I see something new, I'll click the section.

Being a mod I usually hit the "New Posts" button first. It's the easiest way to find spam. If there is no spam I'll look on the list for threads I've posted in first. Then I browse through the rest to make sure everythings on th up and up. I'm keen to look in on threads that have no or few replies.

Open Discussion. Then if I'm bored I'll look at songwriting. Beyond that I don't really care.

This has generated a lot of interesting responses. I like the idea of stalking people with the "Who's Online" function. Especially, like Rustee said, guests that probably googled something then started checking out other threads. I imagine that's how a lot of new members come to sign up for GT in the first place.

Thats how I found Gt. I was looking for tabs and this cae up. I was like, wtf, theres no tabs here. Then I read the thread about people's annoyances (sporks was one of them) and stayed.

I usually just go from top to bottom, I usually skip songwriting being as I suck.

Although recently I've been getting really zaney and going in the reverse order.

YEAH!
