Sheesh! I don't even know how to play the 6 strings that I've got right now :o ! What on earth does someone need 8 strings for?

Wouldn't want one... wouldn't need one.

I've got all the tone I can handle with 6 strings.

I'm sure someone out there would get some use out of it... But to me it's kind of like the Hummer H3's that everyone drives around... is it really necessary? No.... but whatever makes you feel better about yourself I guess...

I wouldn't know what to do with 8 strings. Imagine a bar chord on that sob? You'd need like...cactus fingers..... Ok, that was a bad analogy, but you get the point.

I'm sure it sounds great with some heavy distortion and lots of volume, and could be an intresting instrument to tap, but they allready invented the chapman stick. :D

I'm into Asesino and Meshugha but to be honest... 8 string guitar... dunno, I get confused with my 7 string allready... so I thing it would be pretty damn hard.

But it looks pretty sick...

Ugly as sin.

I'll stick with 6 strings thanks.

I think it loosk pretty snazzy,

Half of me wants it now and half wants to stay away, I like the idea of having one because they are prototypes and might not last long and I can say I have one, i kind of like that its 2 semitones above a standard 4 string bass but then makes me think whats the point why dont I just play bass.

The main thing that probably atracts me to it is the gigantic range it has almost one more octave than a standard 6 and i love ibanez.

Of course there is LGM guitars which makes 36 fret 8 strings,
thats 2 more octaves which is utterly insane.

I am Mixed Up

I struggle to reach round to the low E on my strat with my small fingers, i couldn't reach a 7th string never mind an 8th!!

In the right hands it could probably make some lovely noises ;P

So what are they gonna do when they reach 12 strings. It'll be kinda confusing won't it?

Somebody should invent something with 88 strings, lay it out horizontally in a big wooden box... and instead of plucking it, you hit the strings with little hammers by pushing down on a some keys.

I think that the sound will be different somehow

hmm... I've been playing 12-string guitars for near 40 years now. I kinda like 'em.

Whuuaaaaa! LMAO! :D
Can you just imagine the versatility available in the Variax version? :p

What im worried about most are the poor metal-bass-players who'll be out of their jobs if this continues... ;P

It must be a bitch to tune a piano. Seriously, has anyone done it? How often do you have to tune one?

I've always wanted an 8 string but they are just too damn expensive - at least the Conklin and LGM models are, must have a look at the new Ibanez - it was only a matter of time before they got around to it. The low end riffs you can get have so much power because of the gauge and low tuning. Check out Rusty Cooley to get an idea of how cool they can sound. Also, you can do some monstrous sweep picking on one of those guitars. If you like heavy stuff check out Meshugga and Rusty Cooley to see the possibilities for the 8 string.

I tried it once. It's not hard but it requires a whole lotta patience.

There was something on tv the other night about church organs that have to be cleaned and retuned. There's like 40,000 pipes and it takes 8 years or something. Now that's patience. By the time you've finished and are ready to play your first tune, you have to start over and clean it again.

Wow, that's insane.

Thank god I don't play a church organ.

Does the low G in a 8 string even ring out properly? I cant imagin how much you would have alter your distortion to make the bass string not muddy and the treble strings not brittle.

In the pic looks like it has a pretty cool low action but it must be a living hell setting up this one.

And changing strings... gosh... does it come with a guitar tech to do it for you?...
