Geocaching

Anybody into geocaching? Anybody actually know what geocaching is? If not, you can go >HERE< (http://www.geocaching.com/) to find out what it is. Anyway, Tonja and I have really got into it, and we're having a blast with it. We jumped in head first, without really knowing what we were doing, so we didn't do so well on our first outing. We've kind of got the hang of it now, and have found 2 caches. Actually, we found 3, but some people were already at the second one we went to, so we weren't able to actually go to it. The GPS unit we use is a >Garmin GPSmap 76CSx< (http://www.garmin.com/products/gpsmap76csx/) . It's an awesome unit, and there's so much you can do with it, that it's ridiculous.

So how does it go? You use your Gps and coordinates you find on the net to track down a cache and inside someone left a little prize?

Pretty much. The box you find will have a bunch of different little trinkets and such, and you take one thing, and you add one thing.

Dude, thats friggin awsome! You should like put in a pack of strings or picks, you never know. I'm gonna have to look up some stuff and see if theres any caches near me. Are the boxes buried at all or do they just sit on the ground?

They are usually under a rock, or root of a tree, etc.. they are not supposed to be buried at all... but just hidden out of sight.

Thats got to be a pain in the *** when you have to find a film canister with more coordinates to find the real cache. I looked up my zip code and theres stuff pretty close by.

This does sound kinda cool. Looks like there must be many people doing this. I live outside of Atlanta, GA. And that site has 2049 listings in my zip code. One of my secondary hobbies is metal detecting. This might fit in pretty good with that! ;)
