Here's where you can list your favourite brews of the moment. And if anyone says Bud Light, Coors or Molson 40, I will personally fly over to wherever you are and smack you on the back of the head. Or just insult you mercilessly right here.
Here's my list:
Guinness - the beer that eats like a meal!
Sleeman Honey Brown Lager - about 1 out of every 6 or so you drink is soooo smooth, it feels like you can just tilt your head back and pour it straight down
Boddington's
Grolsch
That's all I can think of right now...
Duvel
Cristal Alken
Jupiler
Stella Artois
Hoegaarden

At the moment Corona cos Ive only discovered it recently.
I find Stella awful, i dunno why anyone would drink it.
I drink Guinness sometimes.
I also like Carlsberg EXPORT!!, decent cider(Bulmers), Bud on tap(any other type is awful)

I've only heard of guinness, bud, and corona out of all those favorites. That's kinda sad considering I'm a college student. :(
I've never had beer but I'll be sure to post what I think of it here if I ever do for your alls entertainment. :)

isnt corona mexican?
Bud is czech or something isnt it? At least the stuff we get I think... I cant remember if its an American beer pretending to be Czech or the other way round. I heard in America its the lowest beer, the one kids drink cos its cheap, which is what Stella is in England(so ive been told). American beer is generally ****, Miller is a perfect example. Ive been to gigs where going thirsty is preferrable to spending 5 euros a go on watered down Miller, Alcohol content 0%.

My favorite? Either millstream brewery's (a GOOD american brewery) millstream wheat, hoegaarden, or millstreams schild brau.
But I must be quite honest, that stuffs expensive. I'm poor.
As an American, I would feel bad putting hoegaarden in a beer bong, so most nights I just drink budweiser or bud light.

Well, where I live, the choices are quite slim so I normally drink Bud Light or Budweiser. The best beer I've ever had was when I was in Germany at some Beer Hall party. A large glass was almost the size of a pitcher of beer here. It was so yummy! Probably the worste beer I've ever had was a Kalik Gold, it's a beer in the Bahamma's. 10% alcohol and rumored to have phormaldahide in it. 4 of those got me sick as a dog. besides that, Gueniss is a very fine sipping beer, but I'm not sure about having it in a can or bottle. I've only had it on tap in England. But like I mentioned earlier, I'm not in the best location to experience quality beer. :(

Yeah, I'm very jealous of you Brits who can have an ice cold Guinness on tap. It's supposed to be much different than what we have here in Canada. The Canadian version has something like 200 calories a pint, and the UK version has something like 900.
Also, some Guinness purists have told me that it tastes best from a pub less than 15 miles away, since any further and the beer will get shaken up by the drive and the flavour will change. That might sound stupid, but any wine connaiseur will freak out if you shake up a bottle of wine...

Sierra Nevada, brewed in Chico, CA
Anchor Steam, from San Francisco
Sam Adams isn't too bad, nor is Pete's Wicked. When I'm broke I buy Coors original though (5% alcohol).

im not sure about the shaky barrel in transit thing, it would apply to a real ale, but not guinness.
with guiness the biggest varients in whether you get a good pint or not is in how its poured, followed by how well the cellar/lines are kept. the product in the barrel is pretty much uniform wherever you are.

Don't even think about getting name brand beer in the US. That said, there's some KILLER microbrew stuff out there (they're even allowed to put a little alcohol in it).

I don't drink beer or shouldn't, actually. I'm a coeliac and can't eat, drink or consume anything with glutten, which is in wheat flour and guess what beer is brewed/distilled with?
Of the Aussie beers I've drank, none are great. Carlton Draught and Victoria Bitter are OK. Beers I do like however are Guiness and Kilkenny but seeing both my parents are wine enthusiasts and I live about 10 min away from Great Western, a small town with 7 vineyards, I just drink wine as well as vodka, gin and cock-sucking cowboys.

I don't drink alcohol. Occasionally I use a bottle of beer as an indgredient for chili, but barring that, I never touch anything. I went through that phase and I'm glad I got myself out of it without a 12 step, and I have no desire to go back to it.

Just looking at some of these posts im guessing theres not many aussies here and thats bloody disgraceful. Most of you that have tried some ozzy varieties of beer may have only had the tripe that we send to wherever it is you may come from, so please allow me to give you a guide to drinking in Australia.
Victoria Bitter (a.k.a VB, Vitamin B) is the type you wouldnt go buy yourself but if youre offered one from a mates fridge it is then classed as FREE and therefore becomes drinkable, I give it a 3-10.
Fosters (a.k.a the tripe that we send to wherever it is you may come from). This is not beer, at best it is sheep urine with a touch of methylated spirits, I would sooner drink the pond water at the local park. It will receive no rating.
west end draught (a.k.a Westies). A big tick from me, ive had many a fun night that I cant remember with this little beauty. If youre ever in south australia you cant leave till you have a few at the pub. 7/8-10
Coopers pale ale (a.k.a Pale). This is quite a good drop as long as you know how to drink it the right way. If its from the tap you can drink it down without a worry but its better from a stubbie, this is the trick to it, with a stubbie of pale you turn it upside down and give it a tap on the bumb to stir up the sediment on the bottom otherwise its just disgusting. Definetly worth a look. 6-10
Crown lager (a.k.a The good stuff). The heavens are opening above me as I type this name. If this isnt the best beer in the world than you can spank my granny with a rubber chicken. I dont know if it gets exported to any other countries but if its not in yours I suggest you sell your first born and come to the land of oz for a pint. A massive 10-10
Theres also xxxx which I would rate the same as westies but they are a slightly different taste, one thing to take notice of when looking for westies overseas is not to be confused with west end export, remember Draught is the brew and export is the poo.
The only non-ozzy beer I will drink is guinness which is bloody good stuff.

Hey, we should set up some sort of beer exchange! Mail a bottle to each other and we can try each others' local brews. I wouldn't mind shipping some Canuckian beer to the land down under if I got to try a pint of Crown Lager!

OK, back on topic - I just checked Canada Post's website and also the Canadian Department of Justice website and it looks like my idea is already dead in the water. Yeah, I thought about it, but that was before I was really active on this board. Also, we only spent a couple days in Nairobbery, and those days were pretty full, either arriving or leaving on flights (in & out of the country and one within Kenya). The one day that I wasn't in an airport in Nairobi we spent searching some of Nairobi's famous curio shops. I went to the one across the street from where there used to be a huge mosque. It was a little two-story shop which sold exactly the same things as every other freaking curio shop around. The only difference was that there was a Masai fellow working at this one. After we made our purchases, we went out back and he attempted to demonstrate the world-renowned jumping prowess of the Masai tribe (some can get as high as 6 feet in the air after bouncing in one spot for some time). Unfortunately, this guy was born in Nairobi and had no Masai culture left in him and could probably clear 6 inches, tops. I got a picture, though!

I've got a few more brew's to add to the list.
Eastside Dark - from the Lakefront Brewery in Millwaukee, Wi
It was pretty good. Nice and smooth with a good strong taste, but not too heavey.
Oak Barrel Stout - from the Old Dominion Brewing Company in Ashburn, Va
This beer wasn't that great to me. It had a coffee like flavour with a hint of chocolate and vanilla, but not in a good way. Very heavey and thick tasting. Left a bad after taste as well. It wasn't horrible, but I probably wouldn't drink it again.
Lev Lion Pale Double Bock - from the Hradec Kralove Brewery in the Czech Republic. This beer was actually quite good. It had a great crispness and bitter bite to it like a beer should. Almost like Pilsner Urquell, but not quite as bitter and a little lighter. I would defanately drink this beer again.
La Fin Du Monde - from the Unibroue Brewery in Quebec, Canada
This beer was very unique. It was quite enjoyable with many distinguishable flavours. Overall it had a smooth sweet spice flavour too it. On the front side is the beer taste which is slightly crisp, then it's almost like spiced punch, and goes down almost like champaign but with more aftertast. Plus this beer was 9% alcohol! I would defanately drink again.
Wittekerke - from the Bavik Brewery from Belgium
This was my first wheat bear and so far my favourite. It had a sweetness to it that was wonderfully refreshing. It had a crispness to it, but went down very smooth. It was a great drinking beer period!
So, untill next month, happy drinking.

I would defanately drink again...Ah, yes. The name means "End of The World". Which describes the sensations experienced any who combine sufficient foolishness and fortitude to consume two bottles of this stuff! Also from the same brewery: Trois Pistoles (Three Pistols), and Maudite (The Damned). All are very hoppy, flowery brews suggestive of drinking perfume. Generally reserved for students, and tourists. :p
I like to take full advantage of the fact that recent developments in liquor import/export commerce mean that tipples from all over the world are readily available locally. I am sure that the abuse they endure during transport render them unrecognizable to those who are familiar with them at point of origin. Still, even in their mutated forms, they provide interesting diversion from the local offerings.
Case in point: Mississippi Mud. Advertised on the label as an example of the "black and tan' beer that results from mixing a very dark ale with a lighter lager. In draught form this usually means Guiness mixed half-and-half with something that the regulars would not otherwise order. In this case, the constituent brews are unidentified, but the result is really quite enjoyable. The 'Mud' is quite dark, full-bodied, with a firm head, and a treacly finish. Conveniently, they arrive here in 'jug' bottles that hold exactly the right amount to fill my schooner, leaving just enough room for the head. And it's a proper 5% brew - not that aenemic 2.3% palidity that the Americans endure at home. Well done!

quite an impressive post here! dunno where to start at the begginig i had so many suggestions till they got shot down (that would be the ol VB lovely stuff all i drank when i was in sydney)
corona is nice so long as you have a a cut of lime shoved down into it, that does wonders for it.
my first choice anywhere (though it aint that common) is Peroni (says nasrto azzuro on the bottel though) gorgeous! italian i think.
if your on holiday or pretending then its gotta be san miguel, just reminds me of bein in spain, and is definatly a summer beer.
if your in america it gets more difficult was to young to enjoy beer when i was over there and now in england the only american beers are bud an the like which is nats piss. the only bud worth drinkin is the czech stuff its said budvar instead of budwieser then though.
thats all i can really think of, as i don't really drink beer cos i get ill if i get pissed off it (think it relates back to one happy new year when i was 14, i was still standing just but the room was black...) the good stuff is the vodka never get ill of that stuff!! and have developed quite a taste for it

Ah beer ! A subject almost as close to my heart as music (possibly closer sometimes ;) )
I do feel sorry for you guys in the States as you really don't get beer as we do in the UK.
Best beer ever (imnsho) - Fullers London Pride - If you are ever in the UK and in London you have to try this. Exquisite ...
Just down the road (10 miles) I've got the Harvey's brewery which does an excellent pint of Sussex Best.
A bit further west is the Gales brewery - home to HSB (If the bottom's fallen out of your world drink HSB and let the world fall out of your bottom)
I could go on for hours but the football (that's proper football btw ;) ) is on and a cold Speckled Hen awaits me :D
Cheers

No offense to like everyone, but i'm sick of hearing this condescending type attitude towards american beer. There is no such thing as a sophisticated beer. Beer is for the working man, in my opinion, so why be all pretentious about it. I mean really, its just beer. Some people like American beer, some like canadian, some like mexican, some like european, you get the idea. I frankly don't care as long as I get drunk.

Commercial American beer is barely alcoholic, homogenized piss water.
Commercial beer elsewhere in the world is at the least much more alcoholic and usually made with an ethos better resembling our micro brews.
So, that's where a lot of this comes from.
However, I know a world traveling beer fanatic who claims with absolute certainty that the best beers in the world, bar none, come from Vermont and the American Rockies.
He thinks it has to do with the water being free of pollutants while having a benificial mineral content.
So, our small breweries can swap haymakers with anybody in the world. It's just the Buds and Old Millwaters that are giving us the bad name.

Oh dear, I didn't realise you were that touchy about your beer :)
I think your final comment says it all for me - "as long as I get drunk". Now that's the difference between us. Beer is not always for getting drunk. It is for being drunk.
Beer can be a very sophisticated product when you fill it full of gas and chemicals like most American beers and many British lagers. They'll get you drunk without a doubt but I simply don't enjoy drinking them as they become a means to an end.
A good simple cask conditioned beer (which do exist in the States) can be savoured and appreciated. It's enough just to have a couple of pints of London Pride without needing another 5.
Cheers
Dick

MANY knowledgable people would beg to differ.
Beer is as much for the working man as wine is for the soccer mom. Just because some people only use it to get drunk doesn't mean there aren't any big difference in quality out there. Whether you can appreciate those differences is a whole other issue.
For those of us who don't use beer just a vehicle to get wasted, there are HUGE differences between the crap beers and the more "sophistacted" stuff.
My favorites are the Belgian beers, Cristal Alken, Palm, Stella Artois, Duvel, Chimay, Delerium Tremens, Hoegaarden,...

Crown Royal sounds interesting. I've never seen it sold around here, but I saw an ad for them in a Playboy magazine when I was in 7th grade.

It's good stuff, but I like my whiskey to fight back a little more.

tried 2 new beers this past weekend... Grolsch and Negra Modelo
The Grolsch was very nice. It kind of reminded me of Heinekin, but with a little more smoothness. It was nice and hoppy though, but not overly so.
The Negra Modelo was a dark Mexican ale. It had a real nice smooth dark flavour, but with a crisp finish.
I would defanately buy both beers again.

Grolsch with the flip-top is an awesome beer. The one with the normal metal cap is nice and crisp. Both very drinkable. The flip-top has a little more character, whereas the normal beer cap one is more of a summer beer.

Grolsch is well-named in that I made similar noises the first (and only) time I swilled any.
Very aromatic hops - like drinking perfume.
Just not on.
At all.

I no longer drink...I think I kinda grew out of it...I will occasionally drink alc, but then I'll have a Southern Comforts, lemonade and lime...a ladies drink I know...as for beers...um...I used to quite like Carling, and a South African lager called Castle (which I strongly urge all of you to try if you can...probably the nicest lager in the world)

I was drinking Lager in moderation for thirty years - I drink Smirnoff and Coke or pepsi now.
I have only just realised how aggressive, lager can make me.
Now when I look around at the guys drinking lager - they all look a bit messed up.
I've also stopped smoking Black market Tobacco as it was causing Skin problems and God knows what else ?

They're talking about beer... lager is a type of beer. Just like Ale's and Lambics... there are tons of different kinds of brews.
I prefer a nice Brown Ale like New Castle. For a lager I normally drink Sam Adam's Boston Lager or Heinekin... Chapeau makes an awesome Cherry Lambic. It's 9 dollars a bottle at most US brew houses though... It's to die for though if you like cherry flavored stuff.

Stella Artois is great beer from Belgium, Hoegaarden is a well known white beer which I really really like with a slice of lemon (the proper way of drinking Hoegaarden). My favorite is Jupiler, also Belgium beer, though it's expensive and has those small 25cl bottles. Next to Jupiler I love Dommelsch, from a town near my old folks home, Dutch beer! only better then Heineken, I'm not really fond of that

http://www.interbrewhoreca.nl/inc/images/20050325JupilerRB25new.gif
Oh right, we also got Dommelsch Ice, the coldest beer in the Netherlands, cause it's got some special way of brewing concerning ice crystals etc.
http://www.interbrewhoreca.nl/inc/images/dommicenw.gif
oh yeah, I love beer
almost forgot Murphys Irish Red Beer and Guiness! The Irish Pub here is my home
and all our beers are 5% or higher, I don't drink any lighter stuff, it's usually bad

Ah... Stella.... It's known as 'wife beater' in the UK - for obvious reasons. It is purported to have loads of additives in it - hence the monster hangovers it delivers.
I like 'Leffe' these days... although I don't drink like I used to...

btw... Finally got to try some Boddingtons. It was probably the smoothest and easiest to drink beers I've ever had. It had no carbonation, similar to Guiness, but not near as heavy on the stomach. It actually kind of had a banana pudding bouquet to it, which enhanced it's smoothness. I've also recently added Stella, Rickard's (Red, IPA, and Honey Brown), Czechvar, and Mooshead Dry to my repertoire.
My first choice in a cocktail is a Crown and Mtn. Dew.......Royal Dews!!
If I'm drinking beer, it's either Killians Red or Guiness..

Victoria is made by the same brewery (is that right?) that makes Corona but is done and sold only in Mexico... damn it's good. :p
Guiness is nice too and XX Lager is pretty good too.
For my taste and my taste only, mexican beer is one of the best beers they are.
