Guitar Tricks - Server move starts today

Our new server is ready, and we are starting to move things over.

There will be 1-2 hours of downtime today. I will try to keep downtime minimal.

I will update this thread as we make progress.

We got about 1/2 to 2/3 done today. The server has been really unstable, so we have had 15 minutes of downtime here and there.

We will be back on this task tomorrow am. Hopefully we will be finished by tomorrow afternoon.

Everything has been copied over to the new server. We are all ready to move the site over.

Since it is so late, we will postpone the move until tomorrow. That way, I can be on hand (and awake) if anything isn't right.

One mistake, Jon, I think the new server doesn't adjust for time-zone differences. For instance, posts I'm making WELL after someone else are appearing above the post to which I'm replying because of the time-zone difference.

Yeah, I don't know who you'll have to call, but this time zone thing has GOT to be fixed. It could lead to some very serious problems of communication.

The clock on the old server is wrong. We are now fully moved to the new server, where the clock is right.

It takes a while for each ISP to update their records and point you to the new server. If you want to go to the new server now (should fix your time problem) go to this temporary url: go.guitartricks.com

By tomorrow most everyone will get to the new server by going to www.guitartricks.com. That should fix the time problem.

As of today it looks like all ISPs have gotten the notification about the new server. I just checked and there was no one using the old server.

That completes our move. Thank you all for your patience and understanding.

Please let me know if you see anything funny. There are always small differences between two servers that can sometimes cause bugs.
