He uses a wah throughout, a little distortion, but fairly basic stuff, doesn't sound like he has any delay at all, or much reverb, if any.

only a small percentage of tone is the actual effects... the amp and guitar play a big part as well.... but Joe Satrianis fingers make up most of his tone... Unless you have magic Joe hands... good luck nailing htat tone. haha.

Honestly, without a tube amp, I'd think this tone would be near impossible to reproduce with much accuracy to begin with, even if you had the same guitar and same approach as Satriani.

oddly enough, i just watched the "behind the scenes" little mini documentary on one of satch's dvds, and he talked alot about his crazy little habits of keeping his fingers mallable and whatnot, and he actually did go into a bit of detail on his "rig." honestly, he doesnt use rack effects (at least on stage) but he really just has about 5 pedals...a bluesy distortion, a hendrix-style distortion, a wah pedal (those red ones that cost like 150 bucks and have different effects on it....like an auto-wah or something) and a delay pedal. i think thats honestly it. he plays through marshalls (surprise, surprise) and the rest is probably just his crazy talented hands.

on a side note, ive read into his signature "satch screams" and vaguely how to do them, but i saw the lead guitarist of dragonforce ripping them up even cooler when i saw them live a few weeks ago. he does like a pinch harmonic, then lifts his guitar up by the whammy bar and dives it using the weight of the guitar. its soo rad, and yea... i tried to do it the day after. not even gonna happen.
