So yeah, I just spent the past few hours chiselling off the huge build up of ice inside my freezer with a chisel about as wide as my pinky finger nail.

Ironically it was quite hot and sweaty work.

And yes, I really do have nothing better to do.

Watch yourself doing that dude - you don't want to lose a finger as well....

I find it quite funny when it gets that bad - I ended up with a blowtorch in my freezer after I got bored of waiting / working....

That fixed it's wagon!!!!

There's sort of a funny story in the Kurt Cobain Journals about how he once tried to defrost his mini-fridge with an ice-pick. He ended up puncturing it and the freon started to leak. At this time, his apartment was full of his many pets, so he and his girlfriend started evacuating them all out onto the street. When it was finally all cleaned up, he brought the pets back in and noticed that some yogurt he had left on the counter had turned bright fluorescent green.

So Kurt wasn't on drugs afterall, it was the tempting fluorescent yogurt!

Yep, I've always kinda felt that playing guitar was the only thing saving me from being a ful blown nerd, being that some of my other interests include astronomy and other sciences, playing chess, and finance and investing. At least I never cared for Star Trek or D&D, or else I don't think even guitar would save me. Oh yeah, and I don't wear glasses...whew! :)

It's amazing how much my life is centered around all things guitar, and how i'm utterly lost and useless when I can't embrace it.

Hey, what is so wrong with D&D?? Now I must dare you to a chess game, since you mentioned you play chess. That is a serious insult. ;)

have you tried playing left handed? I did that for a while when I hurt my elbow - I wasn't very good, but it was quite fun...

Also, not to lecture especially as I know what a downer it is not to be able to play - not everything requires a guitar in hand... maybe you could occupy yourself with some theory / sight reading practice / ear training or something to keep doing what you love without provoking whatever injury you may have... Any news on that BTW?

I tried the left handed thing briefly with the strings still set up for a right handed player, amazingly I was still able to visualise chords, scales etc pretty well, but it'd only be something I'd pursue if the worst came to the worst.

And yup, looks like I will be doing stuff like that until I can play again, see the september GT jam thread in the listening post for news on my hand...

Cool man, didn't see you'd posted in there. Glad to hear it isn't too bad...

Just as an additional suggestion, my elbow trouble was down to tendon inflamation around the joint, and I got similar advice. I got one of those 'gripmaster' thingies to exercise it. I used the yellow one to build up again - available here (http://www.gripmaster.org/) if you're interested....

I was told to exercise my hand and arm gently but not given any specific guidance on stress balls etc, so it may not be the best thing for you.... but it worked for me so thought I'd share....

Thanks for the link, I was considering getting one of those but I couldn't remember the name of it. For the time being i'm gonna work on the stress balls and then maybe move onto a grip master, i'll have to see what the physio says first though.

I rang the music degree co-ordinator today and he seemed very supportive of my position and said that there are many ways we can work around the problem, so that's one less worry off my mind!
