Classical guitar

HEllo OUT there fellow guitarists. Im new to this site. However i would just like to let anyone out there who is interested, that I love to play guitar. I am 34 years old and I consider myself to be an intermediate guitar player who is always on the verge of breaking through to the advanced. I know I have the potential... I see it when I practice... my knowledge and most importantly, my fingers thank me graciously! However I know that sometimes I need encouragement! That is why I joined this site. I hope to meet other people out there who are like myself and learn and hopefuly teach other people what I know also. Anyways, enough babble . My musical interests include.... Joe Satriani (although we all know very tough to emulate), yngwie malmsteen, slash, rhandy rhoads, and the names go on. Also I love and appreciate the classical guitar. I try and play as many technical pieces that I can to increase my dexterity and knowledge .... well plus its a hell of a lot of fun too!!!! Bye for now

Lots of Tarrega & Villa-Lobos. Lots of Bach & some Beethoven (my personal fave). What a fun site! Thanks for the link!

BTW - I wouldn't say using tab is "cheating" per se. The 2 biggest problems with tab are: typically it doesn't contain rhythmic info & it's not standardized music notation (it doesn't translate automatically to any other instrument).

But tab is a great way for beginners to learn. I have seen too many "proper" musicians look down on tab as bad. And too many DIY musicians look down on music notation as "unnecessary". They both have their uses. Ultimately, a guitarist should be able to use both.

Great Point. Tab is a tool. A newer tool but one none the less. Music notation is an older tool but still one used to this day. Like any art you must learn the tools that will open your creativity.

I think it comes down to maturity and wisdom in the musician.
A mature/wise musician will know that there are many ways of learning/doing things and look at all methods with an open eye and not be judgemental (take what you want leave/forget the rest).
An immature/unwise musician will be rigid and veiw their opinions as the "Only Way".
Such is life as they say and maturity and wisdom in our musicianship should also be a goal to acheive like scales and modes:)

That's why I love powertab and guitar pro I can tab a chord in and see what it would look lke in standard notation. Best of both worlds. :)

Exactly! Tab and musical notation are both simply tools with specific functions. And FWIW versions of tab are just as old (if not older in some cases!) as notation. Some tab dates back to 1300!
