Fade To Black- Kirk Hammett
All Along The Watchtower- Jimi Hendrix
Eruption- Eddie VanHalen

There are so mny guitar solos, and I could spend all night discussing my favorites with you guys, but then would never get to sleep. But the guitar pieces that I've mentioned are the ones that I have applying into my own work over the past few months. I couldn't live with myself if I was blatently copping them note for note, but what I've done is the time to really listen, noticing the key elements that make them so special. And with enough patience you can effectively use to knowledge of others into your own work, relying on your natural abilities.

About four years ago I would've told you anything by Kirk Hammet :( . Now I really could care less if a song has a good solo. It's always nice to have that killer solo. But when it comes down to it, it's all about whether or not you like the song.

Here are my favorite solos/ riffs

Randy Rhoads' Crazy Train-took me a while to learn
Black Sabbath rocks
Chuck Berry's Johnny B. Goode-unbeatable song.
I love almost all of slayer's riffs
Hammet's Ride the Lightning-just a cool solo that goes perfectly with the song
Stairway to Heaven solo-Zepplin isnt my fav any more but I still have high respect for jimmy's talent. Plus his solo wasn't planned out at all. He winged the whole thing on the spot. Fricken cool if you listen to it.
Joe Satch's Surfing w/ the Alien.

You guys had better check your facts. Not to start a brawl but not to know that Jimmy page is the one and only guitarist for zeppelin is a pretty sad disappointment. Im sorry there uis just no other way to put it. you should be ashamed. Seriously.

i have to say i agree. he is one of the most famous guitarists ever in one of the most famous bands ever, and not to know that is both shocking and shameful.
Incidentally, has anyone heard any Marillion solos. I like them because they fit into the songs really well and can be very emotional. i especilly like Script fo a Jester's Tear.
Keep 'em comin
