I just bought my first guitar a couple days ago and already my first string broke. I was just wondering when I go to Guitar Center tomorrow, what set of strings should I pick up? I have a Ibanez V70CE Acoustic-Electric guitar. Thanks in advance.

Elixir Nanoweb sound terribly awesome!! They are expensive though. Martin is okay and about 1/2 the price but I don't care as much for the sound quality as Elixir. You will get what you pay for.

My favorites are Ernie Ball Super Slinky's. I wrap extra thread on them so they don't rattle, and they give me an excellent tone that lasts forever.

What does it mean when the strings are "extra-lite" or "heavy?"

It refers to the guage of the strings. some strings are coated too. you should take that into consideration when changing them. Using heavy strings can sometimes require adjustments to your guitar.

Basically how thick the strings are.
Thicker (high guage - heavy) strings will give you better tone than thinner (low gauge - light) strings but they will be harder to play on, and visa versa.

D'addario are personal faves. Tried Gibson and really only like the ones that are smooth (not wound) no string "zip".

:p
I really cannot see why a beginner should buy an expensive set of strings. Do a google search and you will find some great inexpensive strings. I recommend lights for beginners.

I don't see why anyone should. I've used all sorts of different brands, but as long as you change them regularly there isn't much difference in my opinion. I do tend to favour d'addario, but only because the coloured ball ends make life easier for me...

this isn't going anywhere. we all are justtelling what brands we are using, but the most important thing is the gauge. i have been tought that you shouldnt use lighter then 11.-?? with acoustics

If your just starting, the lighter the better.
I use to use ultra light by Sound City - reputed to be used by Eric Clapton - I don't think they are in production any more?
