View Full Version : Guitartricks server problems?

I don't know if it's just me, but Guitartricks has been going extremely slow for the last couple days. I've been getting a "server not found" error every once and a while too.

Has anyone else had this?

me too, if i get onto the site it goes off shortly after with site not found.

Thought it was my comp, but obviously not

I've noticed too. Netscape seems to be waiting on adforce.imgis.com... I think the guitar tricks server is doing just fine: the advertisements have just found one more way to slow things down.

I think you're right. Usually the page will load, but it will sit there trying to download those stupid ads and then give the "server not found" error"

I have noticed that the little graphics for "reply", "quote", etc. haven't been loading either though.

Next time you see something like this, please send me an email at webmaster@guitartricks.com.

I think I fixed the problem that was causing this.

Ok.

I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't just my computer. That way I don't waste your time with a useless email.

it's still pretty slow.

Usually I'll assume it's my internet connection, though I thought about making a post about it a couple of times. When I realized that it was adforce.imgis.com I just assumed that their server was having issues (since the guitar tricks stuff seems to open up just fine) so I didn't see what you could do about it other than holler at them via email of phone (however you communicate with them). Regardless, I'm a patient man, I can wait... most of the time.

Funny but if I sign on using Netcape on my computer, I get a blank green page and have to reload the pages every time, but with Web TV the pages load just fine.
(I wish MP3 worked on Web TV... what a pain :(

Hootayah, just use IE.

Can't.
I'm on an older Mac and IE just locks everything up. Besides, Nescape Communicator has newsgroups, email and you can write web pages with it.

I have a very fast Mac, but I only use IE if I have to. I try to keep Bill Gates off my computer as much as possible. Kinda makes life difficult at times, but when I get MacOS X on this computer, we'll see how OmniWeb deals with this forum.

The funny part to me was the ad people were bugging me to get rid of the adforce.com tags, and I was saying "I did, I swear, they are all gone" and meanwhile here they are in the forum messing everything up.

This site costs quite a few bucks to host, so we need the ads. Just put up with 'em, they are our friends.

I checked the netscape thing on my win98 machine, it works ok, but it waits a long time to render the page.

I figured.
Seems like Netscape really wants to talk to adforce.imgis.com before it renders everything else. I can cope.

You think we can get extra money for guitartricks if we start mentioning advertisers in our messages?
Like.. "I was having trouble with this guitar solo, while enjoying a nice refreshing Bud Light when I noticed that my Dunlop picks were making life so much easier..."

The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

This is what I see every two-three minutes, I hope it's not permanent, because it's kind of frustrating...

with netscape it just takes a really long time for everything to load up.

Rask, don't get OS X until 10.1 is out... I guess it probably is already out in the US though isn't it. It's just that everyone I know has had serious issues with it, it seems to crash if oyu let the computer go to sleep, etc.
It's funny, all the ads I get don't load, I just get blank white windows (name of a band? Blank White WIndows - hmmm) that pop up behind the main window. The page itself loads very well with the browser of Satan (I'm embarrassed to use IE, but I got sick of netscape issues), but the ads just don't load at all, which is fine by me. This could be something to do with the college proxy I run through though.

Why should you be embarrassed to use IE? Netscape's the one that you're having problems with . . . right?

IE and Netscape both have issues... IE just renders pages faster. I like Netscape's UI better and the fact that it does my email too. It also doesn't install hoards of extensions that slow the machine and could possibly cause conflicts.

As for OS X.. I'm going to do it as soon as I have the money, I'm still gonna keep a partition for OS 9. I plan to put OS X on it's own seperate hard drive though.

This would be why your title is Webmaster, eh?

Thanks Jon.
