The first tab is probably written correctly. If there isn't anything marked on a specfic string then you're not suppose to pluck those strings. So just strum the 3 strings that make up the barre chord...

The second tab you showed is probably wrong because an X in a tab means that you're deadening the string... Instead of sounding the note it makes a pluck noise. If you see an ex it means that you're suppose to release the pressure on that fret so your finger is on the string but not pressing it down to the fretboard... that's how you get that sound.

So if you see X's that's what it means... If you don't see anything... that means you're suppose to strum those strings.

You could do that...... but you'd be about the only one ever to do it. haha. It's showing you the tuning... tune your guitar a half step down. You can play it in standard but it won't sound exactly like the original recording. So just grab your tuner and tune a half step down... If you have any trouble with that just say so and I'll explain it a little more.

It's easy to tune down, though it's kind of a pain. You can do it with a chromatic tuner if you have one. Otherwise, ya gotta do it by ear--which is easy when you get used to it, but hard at the start.

A chromatic tuner should show you when you're at Eb and you tune to that rather than to E. Then you do that for each of the strings (but not all to Eb ;) ).

By ear you would start from standard tuning. Then play the 6th string 5th fret, then the 5th string open. They sound the same, now play the 6th string 6th fret and tune the 6th string till it sounds like the open A (5th string.) Then you just follow the tuning by ear procedure and your a half step down.

Also, you don't have to tune down if your just learning a song (other than drop d and c), but if your gonna jam along to it, then yea, tune down.

an arpeggio is a chord played one note at a time...for example u hold an A chord, but instead of strumming the whole chord...u pick the strings one by one...eg.

this is a form of arpeggio as a C chord but u play it this way instead of strumming

Playing a chord note by note as described above is known as 'arpeggiation' because you're playing it a note at a time, but a chord is not an arpeggio...
